Justin92297 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Next weekend I'm heading out to fish upper and lower black river near clear water lake. I know upper is best for smallmouth and lower im not sure about but I know there's walleye in there. Does anyone have any tips or lures/baits for me to try while I'm out there???

Smalliebigs Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 justin, I love the Black and fish it a bit and Mitch is correct Ron Kruger is a great guide but, you don't need one. Fish early with any walk the dawg bait of your choice, and I mean early the bite turns off there for topwater once the sun rays come up over the trees to the east. I have been scoring big with a Strike King Dog jr.....then go to some soft plastics the rest of the day. I use a trick worm Texas rigged, as well as some a creature bait I will leave nameless. Use the fow of the main channel as your guide, look for moving water with boulders or laydowns....the smallies will be there.
Al Agnew Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Below Clearwater, the river has a lot of spotted bass, a few smallmouth and largemouth, and like you said, walleye. The walleye aren't abundant, and you'd be lucky to catch one. But if you use a deep diving minnow shaped lure in the deeper, shaded pools you might luck into one. The lower river is pretty much whatever degree of murkiness that Clearwater is, and definitely not super clear like the upper river.
Justin92297 Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 Thanks guys I can't wait to get out there!
