You really need to justify every expense, every year. They used to call it 'Zero-Based Budgeting'. Every year, every department starts with zero and asks for money. But, it was more theoretical than anything at the federal level.

I know a lot of states manage to balance their budgets. Not sure if that's because they're constitutionally bound, or just good stewards. But the federal government needs a major overhaul, far beyond anything that's been proposed by either side.

How hard can it be? Kevin Kline did it in less that two hours in 'Dave'.

And it is funded thru the USDA.

Unfortunately, 3 years later every attempt to make it accessible to me has failed. I have fiber optic within a few miles. Cell and wireless signals stop on the other side of the road from me. I don't even want to try satellite again.

I can see a major town from where I live. It is not like it is a remote area.

We just kept bugging the phone company about it, not sure if that helped but after a few years of a call a week (our phone service sucks to begin with) we finally got DSL. Maybe talk to county commisioner about it, could be a cause they could take up to get a few votes.

I started with the local person who is in the House of Rep. and the Senate. Joann has been pushing for more access in all areas in her district for several years. Senator was a lost cause, just a cloned response and invite to her fundraisers till I spam blocked her.

The internet push started with the sale of the analog TV wavelengths. Most were bought up by the big players and killed any interest in that. Then some local startups fought for the stimulus monies and came out with broadband internet with wireless modems and 4g LTE signals which ended up mirroring the coverage that the big boys have. The next rollout of towers are supposed to give me a signal in my area. I just have to wait another year.

If anyone has any doubt what Mitt Romney's America is going to look like, take a look at two pieces of news today:

Darden Corp is experiementing with making all hourly employees part time so that they wouldn't have to offer health care and comply with portions of Obamacare: Big business making the rules and you just try and fight back.....

One of Romney's senior advisors told some his supposed supporter's that some of Romney's decisions are going to offend them.

If that's how he treat's people he's seeking support from, imagine how he'll treat the people he doesn't care about (e.g. the other 47% of the nation)......

I think your story there is about a business that is going to have to do away with the company health care because of Obama's Obamacare raising the cost of it doing business. Romney intends to repeal Obamacare and replace with a better system of his own.

Fiscal responsibility will offend many people. The 47 percent that do not pay any tax suddenly having to pull their own weight in society will be a big shocker if that ever happens.

Agreed, And when they start loosing hours and benifits im betting the 47% start shrinking!

A big portion of the '47%' are senior citizens, and the rest are not all unemployed, but the working poor. And just because those 47% don't pay Federal Income Taxes doesn't mean they don't pay ANY taxes.

The point being, portraying half the country as parasites is a bit misguided.

I really don't know the ins-and-outs of the part time/full time thing and the healthcare act. But big business making the rules? Feels more like business adjusting to rules that have been put in place. If government could look a couple moves ahead, they might be able to avoid some of this stuff.

To your second point: honestly, how can you find fault with Romney for making decisions that donors don't like? Are you suggesting a little old-fashioned palm greasing is a better way? Man, I wish we had a lot more people thinking like Romney on that. Of course, as always, it's a lot easier to say it than to do it.

When I worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commision (state agency) I was considered part time even though I worked up to 60 hours a week. This was a way for them to get around offering health benefits even though I would get overtime pay, which more than paid for health coverage of a young 20 something.
