Duck Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Fished our known spots from mouth of the Kings all the way up to Owl creek and we stink. Total 10 K's in boat with two quick release at the boat, 1 keeper. The keeper was the first of the morning so we thought yahoo it will be a good day, wrong. Drop shot got all but the keep, it was on a Red fin. Just means try again darn it. Good fishing. Duck
Bill Babler Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Duckster, I thought it was very hard this morning. Went out up at the Knob as a warm up for the derby. I had 6 keepers that weighed a little over 11 pounds. That is a complete Skunk. All my keeps came on topwater chasing. Struggled with the down fish and finaly this afternoon caught about a dozen on a jig 36 feet. No keepers but if you were derby fishing you would have had to measure them all. Great Guide fish. They jumped, pulled and went crazy. All the keepers I caught were LM skinny as a bluetick. Jig fish were K/s Pete Wenners caught them good suspended with some quality 3 plus pound fish. Deep trees with tops in 35 to 40 feet dropshot. Beck had to work also but not as hard as I did. You think this water is clear now, wait till it cools off for a few days. This water will turn gin clear. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Quillback Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I guess I was lucky today, I started off working trees and coves for LM's did not do well doing that, caught one LM on a paddletail swimmer and that was it for that stuff. Went to the drop shot and ended up catching around 30, mostly spots, it was a mid morning bite, and I must have been in your area Duck as most of my fish came off the drop off (25-35 FOW) on the flats south of Lost Hill island at the mouth of the Kings. No bigguns but quite a few in the 13-15" range, mostly spots. Not derby winners but fun on spinning tackle. I only picked up a handful at my other drop shot places so just got lucky and was in the right spot at the right time. Seemed to be a lot of boats out there today, mostly bassers.
Bill Babler Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Lots and lots of boats out. This is a full derby weekend. Shell Knob will be a very busy place. Not a fun fishing weekend unless you want to take a number on a locaton. I could not get bit in a tree and worked it as hard as possible. Clear, high sky and flat water makes it next to impossible for a cedar bite. Wait a day or two and they will be on it. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Quillback Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 You're not kidding on the taking a number thing, I was a few hundered yards away from point 22, there was a boat on that point when I got there, and when they left another boat pulled in, and so it went, probably saw 5 different boats fish that point in the 3 hours I was fishing the DS on the rolloff,
