Barbless Hooks

Are barbless hooks now required in the area between the dam and Fall Creek? On a recent trip, I was told by the motel clerk that they were but I have not seen anything else saying they were. Thought I would check here.

I haven't heard or read anything that would indicate that that was a new rule.

No - it is not barbless hooks only. ( check the link here : http://mdc.mo.gov/regulations/special/lake-taneycomo )

In fact, it is not even single hook only (i.e. treble hooks on Rapala's).

Tell that clerk he is mistaken... but on the right track for easier releasing of trout!

Yeah that's not true - I was using Small XRaps and Spoons up there in the rain yesterday - and I follow the rules. I do mash the barbs down anyway though like Brian said - it just makes quick releases that much more easy - conventional or fly.

I had wondered about the treble hook part. I'd seen a kid using a baitcaster with a 1/2oz stick bait a few weeks back. He was taking a few on that walk the dog action. Some guy told him it illegal and I admit, I wasn't too sure about it myself.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there's ANY PLACE in Missouri where there's a hook restriction, at least barbless.

  On the lake and its tributaries:
  • Brown trout—20” minimum length limit; the daily limit of 4 trout, combined total of both species, may include only 1 brown trout.
    
    Within 760 feet below Table Rock Dam:
    • No fishing is allowed.
      

    From the closed zone 760 feet below Table Rock Dam to the mouth of Fall Creek:

    [*]Rainbow trout—12” to 20” slot length limit

    [*]Pole and line fishing only

    [*]Only flies and artificial lures may be used, and soft plastic baits and natural and scented baits are prohibited when fishing for any species.

    From the closed zone 760 feet below Table Rock Dam to U.S. Highway 65 bridge:

    [*]Fishing permit (unless exempt) and a trout permit are required to fish for any species.

Some areas of the trout parks require a single point hook, but nothing on barbless.
