Still Experimenting With Weedless Poppers

I'm still playing around with the idea of using small wide gap worm hooks for poppers and it seems to work. The flies ride well and pop well- they also slide over mats of veggies and all that pond scum stuff. I am still trying to get a pond bass to take one of these as I drag it over the weeds. Takes a little adjustment to set the hook with these but it works well once you figure it out.

That's cool. I like the shape as well. Round, but square. Good idea.

Good looking poppers. If they land right side up, seems like a good idea.

ya as long as they land in the water first, they ride right side up. Plus the body kind of acts as a weed guard even when they are upside down. So far I've only hung them up in trees- vegetation doesn't affect them. The bigger sizes also have a nice "walk the dog" action- I guess from the long hook riding out behind them.

I actually do a little multi shank rig with some wire. Those are just size 1 Owner hooks and then the shanks are just cheap bait hooks. You cant see it because it is all inside the balsa.

i thought a sneaky pete would be killer as well. It is nice to not worry about dragging it over junk in the river. Haven't tried them on smallies yet.

If you really wanted to buy a few I would consider it- they take a while with the wire and balsa and paint and junk. But I enjoy it of course.
