I'm still playing around with the idea of using small wide gap worm hooks for poppers and it seems to work. The flies ride well and pop well- they also slide over mats of veggies and all that pond scum stuff. I am still trying to get a pond bass to take one of these as I drag it over the weeds. Takes a little adjustment to set the hook with these but it works well once you figure it out.

ya as long as they land in the water first, they ride right side up. Plus the body kind of acts as a weed guard even when they are upside down. So far I've only hung them up in trees- vegetation doesn't affect them. The bigger sizes also have a nice "walk the dog" action- I guess from the long hook riding out behind them.
