Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 24, 2012 Root Admin Posted October 24, 2012 Yes there was a brown trout kill. Not as many rainbows. September 2008. How many - not way to know but it was substantial. MDC is trying to build the population back up, stocking more browns than they use to. This is the first "normal" fall season as far as generation. Last year they ran water almost the whole time so we couldn't see. If you're coming just for the browns, specifically big browns, you'll be disappointed unless we see a big, new run between now and then. Tim's report though is very encouraging.
fshndoug Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 If you are really looking for BIG Browns.Go to South America. They have what you are looking for.Or you could go to Wisconsin city boat harbors, they come in about this time of year.
ruthead Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Drov down and fished Taney Last week. Got there around 5 p.m.Thursday and fished till 10. Caught some bows and a couple browns Nothing big but fun. Fished Friday and again caught some bows but don't remeber catching any browns. caught one bow approx 20-21" long but slender. Buddy caught one 4-5 lbs but was foul hooked. Real nice fish. Got to witness a guy get a bow to the bank in the 10 lb range. Giant fish. Big Browns-NO worth the drive-ABSOLUTELY Wrath....Did you go?? Brian K. Shaffer Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Certain colors do bring out the brown bite. Darker colored scuds with the water running seem to get bit better with Wollies and the like stripping seem to favor more streamlined and minnow'ish types when the water is off. Also, eyes on your flies make for more hookups. Brown trout like to ambush stuff. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
