drew03cmc Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 I will let you know Ronnie. Thanks for the offer. Andy
drew03cmc Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 What does everyone think of the Falcon Lowrider LFC-5-16? It is a 6' MH power (sort of) rated for 10-17# line and 1/4-5/8 lures. I think it would suit my needs and it is made in the USA. Just wanted to get a quick opinion on this rod from anyone who might know of it or own one. Andy
ozarkgunner Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I agree ... Chompers catch more bass. I love my falcon cara for sinko type baits. Angler At Law

My previous jig rod was the same Low Rider only 6'6". I really liked it and only retired it for a handmade.

Sounds like a good choice, I might be a little leery about using a MH for fishing weightless plastics, but Senkos ought to fit into the weight range listed. Are you fishing tight quarters, no need for long casts? Just asking as I'm not a big fan of 6' casting rods, like the longer ones for casting distance. But I'm standing on the deck of a bass boat and lake fishing all the time. It's hard to know how a rod will perform without actually fishing one.
drew03cmc Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 QB, if you look at the line and lure rating, it is identical to the St Croix Avid and the Loomis CR722 mentioned in this thread, so I wouldn't hold many reservations about it. Andy
Quillback Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Yeah I saw the rating, question is whether I believe it. But if you pick one up, let us know how it does throwing a 1/4 oz lure.
Quillback Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Saw this as I was browsing rods today, pretty good deal on a lightly used rod, I think these folks also warranty their used rods. http://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/used-casting-rod-g-loomis-cbr-855-glx-1.html It's a 782C IMX, dunno why the link has 855 GLX in it.
drew03cmc Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 I was in BPS for a few this afternoon to wiggle some sticks and see what I liked. The Lowrider LFC-5-16 and the IMX CR722 were the two I wanted to feel, and they feel almost identical given the wiggle test. The ratings are the same, the feel (to my hand) is the same, the price of the Falcon is 1/2 of the IMX. I would be happy to own any of them. To the guy who asked if I fish tight water, it depends on which location on which lake here I am fishing. Up the creek arms, it gets pretty skinny, where I can easily lay casts on the other bank or up in the trees if I wanted to. It is about the size of upper Shoal Creek if anyone has been there. I would also use these rods for floating or wading Ozark creeks, so the six foot length is ideal to me. Andy
Al Agnew Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 One rod brand that has been a little bit under the radar is Temple Fork Outfitters. Gary Loomis, after being eased out of the company he created, started a new company making rods for other companies, and has a signature line in TFO. From what I've heard they are good rods, and they're a lot cheaper than Loomis rods. I just bought the 6.5 ft. medium power as a hair jig rod for this winter. Will let everybody know how I like it after a couple of trips. My absolute favorite for both hair jigs and Senkos was a Kistler Helium 6.5 medium. They're expensive, but I got mine for free...unfortunately, I broke the tip off last spring.
