I have been fishing cracklebacks alot lately and have found that swinging them in faster water or on the pick up they twist my leader up usually at the point where I tie on my tippet. Is there anything I can do when I tie them to keep them from spinning. If it helps for the discussion i tie the hackle on with the bottom facing forward ( I think that is how it is supposed to be).

When wrapping the hackle do a full turn at the back, palmer forward, then do a full turn at the head.... kinda offsets the corkscrew effect (in theory).

Heavier tippet might help also.

Or a heftier hook (like a Mustad 9671).

Or you might be false casting too much.

Thanks, I will try the full turn at the back and at the head and see if that helps.

If your just stripping get furled leaders with a swivel! They do a pretty good job of not letting your tippet get twisted up too bad. I've been using furled leaders for several years now and think they do a great job.

I just now started using the micro swivels sold on eBay for next to nothing. They do make a difference.

So does heavier tippet as mentioned before. If you are fishing sz 14 CB'ds.. you can get away with 4x, but a better presentation is made with 5x.... just realize 6x is really putting a lot of torque on the end of the cast... hence the massive spin effect.

Just once I wish a trout would wink at me!
