Weather doesn't look great for waterfowling, but season is open and I have a pass from the OL. Dad and I are going to hit up a local pond holding some honkers and ducks. Hopefully it works out. If it doesn't, it's better than going grocery shopping which is what the wife and daughter are doing tomorrow morning.

Anyone else?

I'd like to be going but have to watch the boys all weekend. The way things look I won't be missing much, but you never know. I'd rather go and not shoot a thing then sit at home and day dream about it.

Things are pretty slim up here Chris. I have been making the rounds and all we have is our favorite bunch of Mike's geese. They have been all over the place with no rhyme or reason in this unseasonable warm weather. Ducks, well lets say pretty much zero around here. One place has a bunch of mergansers. Hoodies and common :( Need cold weather and rain. Hip boots are toast so today a trip to Clinton and see what Everhearts has in stock. Hope you and your dad have a stellar day my friend,

Well, we managed our 6 geese but it was sloppy. The big South wind was giving us fits. We were all the way on the South end of the lake and the geese didn't want to fight the wind to get to us and kept sitting short of the spread. No ducks. There were some there, but we were hunting a 30 acre lake that is only about 1-3' deep and the ducks wanted a grassy spot out in the middle. Could have taken a couple shots at ducks on the swing, but we didn't. The good news is that we got our geese and got out and watched the pond fill up as geese were filtering back in off a winter wheat field they fed on all morning. That has to be the biggest flock of geese in the area. There must be somewhere around 500 birds in it.

Marty, I have some intel about ducks in your area. Friend of mine flew the entire area in a small plane last week. There are ducks there, but you can't see them and they aren't moving until late in the day and into the night with the full moon.. They've been heading out at noon and shooting their birds in the afternoon.

Scott, let's see some striper pics.

Way to go Chris, sloppy or not. The intel? Up North where you went with your friends? On another note I got the paperwork filled out for the spot I discussed with you. When you get that wild hair and want to try pick a day and I will see if it avalable. We did see a few birds scattered from Osceola to Clinton on ponds this morning. A few also on Truman crossing the bridges near Clinton. Also one lone hunter on the long dry shore up there. Mojo flashing a half mile from the road,

No stripers Chris, Only half heartedly tried for them as we were distracted by geese, my brother finally after 20 years got his first banded bird an Illinois Honker. We took our 4 birds and gave the stripers a couple trolls but with the wind and my wifes birthday the latter being more a factor gave up early. LOTS of geese near Horseshoe bend and suprisingly they are squeakers. Man ive shot mallards that were bigger lol.

I Know WC has 1 striper right now he just called me so im thinking tomorrow if the winds die down im going to give it a more hearted try, if the geese dont interupt me again lol

That's awesome! Good for him. It's weird that there are already migrators in the area, especially with the lack of weather. I'd bet you'll get bit tomorrow.
