jdmidwest Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 A Latex Caddis was a common pattern in the mid 90's. On a trip to Blue Springs in Crawford County, MO. in search of trophy wild trout on a cold winter day, we stopped in for gas near Bourbon. Whilst relieving myself of some coffee, I invested a few quarters in a new secret material. I passed the new secret along to my co-pilot for the day and he also invested a few quarters. As soon as I returned to the tying bench that night, I came up with the Trojanator. I was a manager of an Orvis Fly Shop at the time owned by a great gal named Barb. I placed a few dozen of the new creations into the fly bin for sale. Needless to say, with a little promotion, they sold like hotcakes. I never told Barb what the fly was made of, but alot of fellows carried around a little protection just for a conversation piece. That fly shop is long gone now. At fly tying classes and club meetings, I have always tied this pattern for some fun and technique demo. I hope you enjoy this fly and catch a few fish on it and remember what we are here for is to have some fun.........Don't forget, IT GLOWS!!!! Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 28, 2006 Root Admin Posted October 28, 2006 Great idea! I have nothing to share though.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I'll have to give this one a try. Thanks for sharing. Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Danoinark Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 John Wilson and others were tying a "condom worm" on a worm hook. Same principal, These were a red pink color and if you tie in some lead in just the right place, even looks like a worm stomach. Pretty neat. I'll post a picture when I get back to the office machine. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
motroutbum Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 yeah....that condom worm was originally tied by Vladi. Its gonna be in the umpqua catalog next year There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Danoinark Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I never did post a picture of the "condom worm", but ran across it today in the picture archives. Now for your entertainment Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

Danoinark Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 recipe and technique there dano? and if using a spermicidal condom during the spawn...will it cause problems? mikey Mikey, never saw it tied, but I can tell you there were a bunch of fly tyers running around to various convenience stores and truck stops looking for just the right color I do know it was tied in strips, segmented and just the right amount of lead wrap for the stomach. I think tied on a worm hook of some sort. Beeson may have tied this and heck he may have the source for the right color too...oh Terrrrrrrrrry? Seth Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 After reading the recipe sheet and the name of this fly pattern, I just had to snicker a bit. I guess I am just immature lol.
