Bringing all five kids and wife down from frozen north first week in January. Any suggestions on what to bring (deep cranks, worms, tubes, football heads, grubs, etc) and colors. I have fished the rock a few times but never this time of year. Just want to make sure kids can catch some they don't care what kind of fish. Thanks for the help. (Would say go Huskers but whats the point they aren't worth the effort) :)

For bass, jigs with trailers, tubes, slow roll spinnerbaits, and suspending jerk baits. For walleye and crappie, jigging raps to vertical fish under the shad balls in the channels of creek arms.

If I were you and had the young ones, I would not mess with the Rock on the Solo in January. That is a complete reciept for defeat reguardless of the info you recieve here. Lake location and so many other factors come into play.

Take those kids down to Taney and have a blast. The trout are really biting. On my 2 trips right before Christmas, we caught and released about 70 fish per day up to 2 pounds. 4 hr. trips. You will just have to be living in a dream world to do that well on the Rock.

Mater of fact, coming in Cold like that, your goal would be to not catch a fish, but just get a bite.

Go down on the River and have a blast with the youngsters.

GREAT ADVICE BILL!!!!!

Bill is right on, as usual. If I were in your shoes, I would hire Bill for a 4 hour trip to Taney, or contact Chuck @ Anglers and Archers 417-335-4655 and see if he's available. You and your kids will have a blast, catching the trout. I live on Tablerock and have fished it since the early 70's............January is not the time. Try April, May, and early June for some good bass fishing.

Good Luck;

Bill where can I launch on Taney. I check'd out your sight and would love to fish with you but if I fish and one of the kids (they are 12-21 yrs) they will all want to have a trip with you as well and I guess I am to tight to do that for all of them. :)

We usually launch right by the Bass Pro in Branson. Haven't been there in awhile but it's been a good place to launch in the past and can almost always catch fish right under the bridge.
