Jack Jones Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 So other than Lilley's and the Taneycomo area, does anyone know of any resorts/cabins/lodges that are open in the winter? I'm considering maybe a night or two away in February around my birthday and would like to try a new body of water. Ideas, anyone? Greasy B Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Some good folks have bought and are renovating the old White Sands Hotel in Cotter Arkansas. It’s now called the Cotter Trout Lodge. My Buddies and I have stayed there off and on for more than 20 years. The place has always been the best choice for a cheap White River room. The camper cabins at Rim Shoals Resort are another sweet deal. Of course is you want to spend $150 + a night there are plenty of lodges and resorts in the area that are business as usual all winter long. Gavin Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Sunburst on the NFoW...Two nice cabins, some more affordable sleeper cabins, and some campers for rent....River of Life Farm has plenty of accomodations..but more expensive. Some nice cabins in Montauk State Park too. My wife and I like the one by the dam, or the hot tub cabins up the hill. Brain Sloss's places in Alton, MO are very nice too. Some dining options in town, short drive to the river. Have fun.
Jack Jones Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 I was thinking of emailing Justin, but I figured you'd need a boat on the NFoW. I thought it was less likely to be necessary in other places. You can wade on the White can't you? For those who've been or are from Alton, where can you access the river from to wade fish? Greer at HWY 19, Whitten, and Turner Mill are all walk in access. River is low enough you should be able to hit a few holes from any of the accesses. Justin Spencer Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Jack PM me for more info, but I could put you at the Landing which is a great cabin sleeps up to 9 , two bathrooms, washer dryer satellite TV. Easy walking access to a good long shoal, and I'll leave you a canoe or kayak to paddle across the river right there and then you can walk downstream to a couple other good shoals. We have an island and a couple good shoals at Sunburst as well, and now have a house overlooking trout island where you can park and have access to good fishing there. These are all shoals that everyone else has to float to so you would have exclusive access for the most part. If that isn,t enough for you there are three good public accesses that afford even more good wading access. If you get tired of the NFoW we are only an hour from the White or Norfork if you want to take a side trip. PM me for off season rates if this interests you, you more than likely would have the entire river to yourself.
