I recieved about $600 in BassPro certificates for Christmas. So whatever I buy I will get from there.

I am a bass fisherman and recently bought a place at LOZ. I am hoping that some of the guides will give me some advise here. If you are not a guide but fish ALOT please give me your input.

I am wanting to get a flipping set up. Rod and reel. I am considering getting the shimano with the chip in it. I just want to get the best bang for the buck. Please give me your best two options:

One that the cost does not matter.

One that you are getting the best bang for the buck.

I fish apoxamately 40 days per year. Currently I use skeete Reese rods with Johnny morris reels.

Thanks in advance,

David

In my opinion, loz isn't really a flipping type of lake. Flipping technique to me is more power, tight quarters fishing with heavy tackle and heavy lines fishing in heavy cover. That's just my thoughts, regardless of what I say, falcon rods are a great choice. I'd go with the heavy cover jig rod...

Falcon Cara Amistad rod is perfect. It is one piece and can also be used for large jigs and Alabama rigs

I may have said flipping. I meant pitching/flipping reel. My concern is backlashing with the pitching. I would also like each of you to let me know not only the rod but the reel you would recomend. Thanks, David

ABU 7.9-1 Revo MGX... weighs 5.4 ounces... easy to dial in and once set for the lure weight you have to work at it to make it backlash... I put it on the 7'6" MH ABU Villain rod with 17-20lb floro for the heavy work and pair it with a 12lb floro on the 7'1" Med ABU Villain rod for the clear water dock work

I would check in with Fishinwrench. He knows LOZ as well as anyone.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I have a Falcon Cara heavy cover rod also. Good rod for the money and if you break it they will replace it. Done it twice so far. As for reels I have Shimano Curados and Abu Garcia Revos. I think my revos cast better. You might look at a Revo Winch. Lower gear ratio but it has twice the drag power of the other Revos. This would help if fish is hung up in a dock or a tree. Give you a little more power to horse them out. All this being said if you are spending $600 for a rod and reel your gonna get something really good for that kind of money.

Not much of a pitcher and flipper but I belong to BassBoatCentral and there is quite a bit more traffic there than here at OAF.

Click this: http://www.bbcboards.net/rods-reels/146995-flipping-your-rod-reel-line-setup.html and there is 10 pages of peoples opinions and setups starting in 2004. Maybe look at the last 3-4 pages which are going to more current to what is newer and available.

All that being said I hear a lot of guys raving about the new Shimano Cumara Flippin rods. Pair that with a reel like a revo, core or steez that fits comfortably IN YOUR HAND and I don't think you could go wrong.

start with line size and lure weight and then build your combo around that. When I pitch jigs in the Ozarks, (clear water) falcon lowrider 6'10" Eakins jig rod with a Revo 6.3 and 16# sunline floro. 5/16oz eakins jigs In the dingy water of the Ark river, All-Star Tom Mann Jr Carolina rigging rod thats really stiff, (20 year old) wide spool Pflueger president so I can load up with 25# mono (excalibur line) 3/8oz Booyah A-jig and yum money craw. (this has accounted for numerous 20-30lb bags over the years) Go with what works for you.
