Justin Spencer Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hate to hear it, if you feel like getting out at all this month let me know. I have a mangy Boykin that should retrieve for us, maybe he'd do a better job than normal as a tribute to Hank. Used to love the old show Hunting with Hank, I tried to find a link to the theme song, it's sure to bring a tear to the eye of anyone who has lost a faithful hunting companion. Hang in there and give me a call (or pm me)f you want to hit the lake before the end of the season. Deaddrift link below has my number. Feathers and Fins Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Sorry to hear this, Dogs have a special place in Heaven and Hunting dogs go to a Lodge to be cared for by our forefathers waiting for us to come meet them again. JohnP Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Always sad to hear when someone losses their hunting companion. Lost my yellow dawg a couple years ago and it hit me a lot harder than I ever thought it would ended up burying her in the spot where she made her last retrieve and everytime I hunt there I give the first duck after shooting time a pass in her memory. That was a long night of going back thru all the pics and the flood of memories.
mhowerton Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Here is one of our most memorable hunts. On Arkansas WMAs you can hunt the afternoon on the last 3 days of the season. This was a very dry year and Petit Jean WMA had a moist soil unit pumped up, but it was a long walk. No one else wanted to make the death march so Hank and I loaded up 3 dozen floaters and a dozen full bodies on a deer cart and started the 1.5 mile march. We got set up about 2:30. 10 minutes after getting settled a group of 200 mallards worked the decoys. I rose up shot two greenheads and Hank brought them back. Three minutes later another group of 200 came over the decoys with the same results. We then proceeded to pick up the decoys and marched back to the truck. A hunting partner that never complains about the length of the walk, the temperature being too hot or too cold or the wind blowing too much or not enough http://s1321.beta.photobucket.com/user/Matt_Howerton/media/Picture056_zps8a946127.jpg.html
