mhowerton
Went out for a short hunt this morning on Norfork. Ended up with a GWT drake and a drake gadwall. Should have killed my limit. Several missed opportunities. Layout blind on the mudflat is a quick way to get all your stuff mudded up. Always good to ring in the year with a duck hunt and get my 11 yr old lab a couple more retrieves. Don't know how many more seasons he has in him. BilletHead
What a way to start the new year. I am so stoved up from the last few days I needed a day of rest but I am almost ready for more torture . The friends that had visited and hunted with us brought their chocolate labs. They are Too beat up to hunt now. Dogs are brother and sister and would not leave each others side. They have to have help at times getting up and down steps and even getting up after laying down. We have a dog and after the previous dog passed I almosd did not get this one. They become and are family not living near long enough for us. I am glad yours got to go mhowerton. Feathers and Fins
Sounds like a good hunt to me. Ive got to the point its more about the People, Dogs and Scenery than the kills anymore. If i want waterfowl i go pick on the resident geese but ducks have moved up on the scale to they must be decoyed in and if they dont oh well im enjoying company and dam good coffee. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

BilletHead Old Hank has been around longer than I have known my wife. I have to lift him up into the truck now. He won't retrieve anything but a duck anymore. Don't try to get him to fetch a training dummy he is done playing that game. It will be a sad day when he passes away. I am going to try to take him as many times as I can in January because he might not be able to go next season.

Let him show her the ropes around the house, and if he lasts, next season. I find overlaping old and young works well if you flip flop the sex. mhowerton
That hunt turned out to be Hanks last. He had a massive stroke last night and passed away. I will try to post some pictures of some of our adventures later this evening. Sad at our house today. Hard to explain to my 22 month old daughter that He is gone. Good dogs are gone too soon.
