I'm sick and at work... so my brain is firing in "different" ways.

Anyone ever tied and tried a wet fly on a mini-jig? Maybe a Muddler on a brown jig head?

I've never tried them, but they're pretty popular in Europe. The lastest issue of Fly Tyer includes a couple Austrian patterns tied on jig hooks with beadheads. and if you've ever checked out the danica site , there's probably a few more patterns from the European tiers on there.

Good luck!

Ball head jigs...and a muddler style tie..probably wouldnt please my eye...but it works well on a 1/8oz standup jig head.

mic,Back in the late 60s Blakemore put out a 1/64 and a 1/32 oz brown wooly worm that got a limit about every time I used it on 2lb line at Mermac Springs by St James. In the water it looked just like the trout chow they were fed in the rearing pond but it only seemed to work in a very short time after the whistle blew. After the first hour it didn't seem to work all that well. After they stopped making them I tied my own and they still worked as long as it had a black jighead but they never worked as well in bigger water like Taneycomo or on the Current below the park. and Gavin I think some of Jim Green's bass crawler flies would adapt well to a jighead for stream smallmouth and on Jim's ebay site he claims that he sells the crawler flies to guys who use them on a carolina rig but I haven't tried that yet but I plan to this year..............

Seems to me that any of the heavily weighted flies using barbell eyes and coneheads are kind of like a jig fly. Granted, the hook eye is positioned incorrectly, but I suppose a guy could throw them on spinning tackle if they were so inclined. heck, I say tie some up and go throw it and see.

I have fished a Wolley Bugger on a 1/64th jig head before with some success.

I have thought about tying one on a size 12 or 14 jig hook. I figure it could double for a large nymph or a small streamer that would get some depth.

Out of curiousity are you thinking spinning tackle or fly tackle?

I think the blakemore jig was on a 10 or a 12 hook . I used a spinning rod.

Spinning. Mainly I'm thinking about the upper meramec. For some reason, I just can't catch much on fly rods there. So, I'm tying up a box of mini-jigs for spin fishing using the Tany approach, but I thought what the hell, could try a couple of wet flys and swing them. Another approach I wanted to try was a mini-jig with a wet fly trailer... float the jig and then swing the combo once drag sets in. Mainly, I'm sick and have cabin fever.

I think when I go back...I might just try the run and gun game and throw some streamers...i think the fish spread out pretty easily....and there are not very many...which can make nyphing a bit difficult...and I am getting I kinda boared with nymphing. Who knows...tough place to fish..best day was 7 or 8.
