ozark trout fisher Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Surely rivalries will develop, but it won't be the same as KU/MU. Ever. You don't have to tell me that. Maybe the two will start playing again out of conference. I'm not hopeful.
stlfisher Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 It is KU that is unwilling to play MU so we are ready whenever KU wants to renew the rivalry. I am sure they will play again and it will be sooner than most would think. I sure I am in the minority, but with the excpetion of KU what great basketball rivalries are we missing from the Big 12? I am just fine playing Kentucky, Florida, and Arkansas.

Have you got some inside skinny on them playing soon -- of course should KU want to. And 'just fine playing' doesn't equal 'great rivalries'. John
Chief Grey Bear Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Well, I sure remember KU throwing in big crybaby bawlfest in the media. Trying shame MU for leaving the Texas 12. I mean the Big 12. ozark trout fisher Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 On TV it looks like a lot of empty seats at the games, you don't see that at Allen Fieldhouse. What you say is basically true...with one key stipulation that does matter somewhat...Lately Mizzou's homecourt, regardless of what you can say about the atmosphere, has been among the toughest places for teams to play in the country over the past four years. Even on par with Cameron Indoor or Allen Fieldhouse, though just in the recent years after Mike Anderson got the program going again. I believe we are something like 77-4 at home in this timespan and haven't lost there this season yet. Kansas is the better team without question, but has still lost at home to a middle of the road Big 12 team, and came within one desperate buzzer beater of losing to another (Iowa State.) Allen Fieldhouse isn't as impossible to win at as we're used to.
stlfisher Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 spin hardly...more like reality. it WAS KU that said they didn't want to play. Both schools will renew the rivarly at some point...too much interest and money not too. i miss the rivarly, but struggle to come up with another basketball rivarly that MU had in the big 12 that can't be replaced and with anderson at Arkansas that is taylor made to develop.
ness Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Yeah, Bill Self said he didn't see a reason to play. Good for you -- you've got that to latch onto ...forever, I guess. Time will tell if they play again, but it will never be the same with different conferences. Can't be. You keep on hoping these new rivalries develop, but you're pushing with a string. Best you can hope for is a tight conference race every now and again, but it will never have the sizzle of a good old fashioned, hate the other guy, century-old rivalry. You guys screwed it up. John
ozark trout fisher Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I'm tired of being qualified in my support of the school and the team that I love. If that means becoming an SEC fan, and getting into the new rivalries with Arkansas and others, then that's what I'm willing to do. And the Arkansas rivalry should be a very good one. There is already plenty of animosity there for it to get going right away. And if Kansas isn't willing to work with us for a non-conference game, then it's a huge shame, but there's nothing to be done about it. We may have screwed up, but the reality is the ball is in KU's court when it comes to restarting this rivalry. Mizzou has repeatedly stated it's willingness to get it going whenever Kansas is ready. We will be fine either way. Oh, and TCU just happened. Maybe that explains the reluctance to play a top 25 team...
ness Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Funny Bill Self quote from that: 'We've never had a team this bad on the floor. Well I think Dr. Naismith had a couple bad years when he lost to the Topeka YMCA' John
