Members Bamboozle Posted January 14, 2013 Members Posted January 14, 2013 I have been away from CC for a few weeks. When I was last down I didn't see any redds, despite my post last October! This weekend I saw several. I won't start an argument but I for one am trying to stay out of the creek to prevent damage to redds visible and invisible (older redds where eggs have been laid and hatched eventually get covered with moss again...) I am also not fishing now because the breeding fish are vulnerable. For those who are not familiar with what redds look like here's a picture of two redds I took on Saturday.

Not true, here on NFoW sometimes you see them spawn before Christmas, sometimes after, but I have it in my head that it is usually within a month either way of Christmas on this river. timsfly Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I see the rainbows spawn in crane mostly jan and feb but I've seen a few redds in Dec. I've seen a few redds in early march, this year is really different, no water and few riffles, I've not seen any spawning activity yet, but its time. According to what justin says, they must have the arlee strain on nfow, which indeed does spawn into january.Well tim, with you being at crane alot, I would say that my fading memory is telling me march, when indeed it is jan and feb. It has been a good 20 yrs since i set a gentle foot in crane creek.
Members Bamboozle Posted January 15, 2013 Author Members Posted January 15, 2013 Sorry I didn't attach the image. I typically see redds in Dec-Jan time frame. But I have not seen as many this year as in a "normal" year, whatever that means these days. This was taken on lower CC.
