jdmidwest Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Nice try JD. No calves were imported so there is no $30 loss. Do we know that the kitty killed the elk?? I see buzzards all the time standing next to a carcass. Never seen one kill something though. I beg to differ on that one, the cows were pregnant and calved when they arrived. Either way, I would venture that the cost of the Elk presently residing in MO is pretty high. I do not mean to bash the MDC, it is not really their fault we have them. They caved to the special interest groups that wanted them here. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Maybe we can talk to them and see how they got it done. We should be able to use the same tactics for getting a no-harvest on brownies in the rivers. jdmidwest Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Quoted directly from the MDC website. The Conservation Federation of Missouri, which has more than 90,000 members, supports our elk restoration efforts. The L-A-D Foundation, which owns 27 percent of the land in the restoration zone in southeast Missouri, supports our elk restoration efforts. The Nature Conservancy, which owns about three percent of the land in the restoration zone, also supports our elk restoration efforts. http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/wildlife-restoration/elk-restoration/elk-restoration-background/elk-restoration-plan "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. jdmidwest Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 At least there was a semi democratic process with the program. We did not have any say in the Otter Restoration. Or the Black Bear Restoration. Or the Mountain Lion Restoration. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Al Agnew Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 At least there was a semi democratic process with the program. We did not have any say in the Otter Restoration. Or the Black Bear Restoration. Or the Mountain Lion Restoration. Um...if there HAD been a poll of everybody in the state before otter restoration, you wouldn't have found 10% that were against it. Practically everybody was for it. Black bear weren't restored. They got here on their own. And I refuse to believe that MDC is lying and actually introduced mountain lions. Fact is, there are always special interests. It is a matter of which special interest happens to be aligned with the more general population. The Conservation Federation is THE most dominant conservation organization in MO. The L.A.D. Foundation actually owns much of the land that isn't owned by MDC and the feds in that area...and probably think they have a right to have a say on what's introduced onto their land, too. Ditto with the Nature Conservancy. And I bet if you took a poll of all Missourians, a majority would be in favor of the elk restoration. So who are the "special interests"? On the other side, you have the Farm Bureau and some of the landowners in the area, and people who think it was a waste of money, and people who don't like much of anything MDC does. Anybody else?
