Justin Spencer Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 .....that are eating all the quail Last year I flushed a covey and 12 turkeys came down and picked 6 off them off mid air! ness Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I wonder if panthers know how delectable turkey is? John
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 If the farmers would just make sure they clear out all those fence lines we wouldn't have to worry about the pesky quail either. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Nope, the otter reintroduction was well publicized, both in the Conservationist magazine and in newspaper articles. It may not have been well known among people who don't much care about outdoor Missouri, but I highly doubt that very many people who DO care about the outdoors didn't know about it. And I've talked with the original biologist about it several times. What happened is unprecedented. All the studies available before reintroduction came up with about the same breeding success and population growth. But otters in Missouri reproduced and grew in population at a rate that was something like 4 times the norm. In retrospect, it may have been foreseeable, because apparently otters hadn't been reintroduced into the kind of habitat they found in Missouri, with a smorgasbord of small streams with poor habitat and farm ponds. But nobody raised those questions beforehand. It wasn't until the results started showing up that people went nuts about it, sometimes justifiably so, sometimes not. As for managing bears and mountain lions, I think they are really working to get a good handle on the bears. But there simply aren't enough mountain lions yet to make "managing" them practical.

ness Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I think that's a rush to judgement. Perhaps he was just strolling by? John
Tim Smith Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 View My Video Yeah. Pretty terrible to have animals like these in your state. Who would want that?
Members LunkerB Posted February 17, 2013 Members Posted February 17, 2013 Whitetail deer and turkeys were reintroduced and restocked into missouri from indian trails cons. area from 1930 through 1960 giving us the chance to hunt deer and turkey all over the state. Of course you cant tell some Ol' fools that. They are just opposed to anything govt other than financing bombmaking and drones or cocaine and H reintroduction. Im all for the Elk, every time they breed the number gets cut in half. Dont tell yolo. Did anyone think of how the game camera got put there? Or did the elk just die in front of the camera? It was probably just put there to see what came up.
jdmidwest Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 You bring up a good point about the game cam on public property just happening to catch a mountain lion on an elk carcass. Did the person stake one to the ground or tie it to a tree for bait? Or did they just shoot it and leave it lay for the buzzards and lions? I am not too familiar to lions, do they eat carrion or fresh meat killed by their own claws. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Goggle-Eyed Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Chief, I have read your posts. It is obvious you love the MDC. Your rants against Dablemont are proof of that. I think you are both extremist and need to get a grip. You defend beyond reality and he attacks beyond reality. You are the same character just on opposite sides. You are both extremist. Get a grip.
