I wish the moss was cleared out of the Capps creek mp. Has anyone caught a good sized trout out of it? I use to flsh a bit up stream from it, but I believe they've built some houses up on the bluff.

On the rivers I fish I do sometimes associate the mill dams with good things...mainly slowing spotted bass and other invasives from moving upstream completely at will. But it seems like this function of mill dams never works forever. There will almost always be a flood big enough that a few will get upstream.

In streams where this doesn't apply, I just don't really have a use for any kind of barrier to native fish migration. On trout streams (although this applies at least marginally to smallmouth water as well) it can really warm up the water during the summertime. And mill-ponds on Ozark streams rarely have great fishing anyway, except on streams that have good populations of largemouth.

Now the fishing right below just about any mill dam is a different story...It doesn't seem to matter what species are in a river, there will almost always be good concentrations of fish. But in all I think the affects are mostly negative, though probably not severely so in the majority of cases. I know some mill dams have a lot of history too, which probably has to be considered to some degree.

We have the best of both worlds here, dawt mill dam prevents bigs runs of predators up the NFoW, no dam on the Bryant gives us opportunities for natural runs of temperates and walleye, now I'm getting excited!
