Bill Jr. Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Just wondering has anyone used this? Seems to look like thread and not sure if this would be good in very clear water conditions.
RSBreth Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I use it with a flourocarbon leader so I don't worry about how opaque it is - but also it's so thin it also protects it from abrasion. I do have to double the end of the NanoFil with a spider hitch to get the line/leader knot to hold because of how thin it is. I do know it's the farthest-casting line I've ever used - it's just crazy how slick and thin it is.
moguy1973 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I've used it before and I think it's crap. I had several break offs without doing anything besides setting the hook. It is super thin and casts a country mile on spinning gear. But what good is that if it won't land a fish? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Well if you use the "Jimmy Houston" hook set you can apply enough strength to break 50 or 65-pound braid using MH or H action rods - no stretch to cushion the impact and "pop"! Not really the line to blame just wrong line rod action/power combo. You have to learn to ratchet down the rod action and power and set your drag correctly to slip on the hook set just a bit, too. A fluoro leader adds that little extra wiggle room to ease the impact, and I think one of the keys for using superlines. It's not just you that had that problem, ultra finesse isn't for everyone. There's a lot of trade-offs for what you get. I've landed Rainbows up to 7-pounds and Largemouths a bit more with 6-pound Nano - it'll do it if you have everything working together right - but I'll say again that it really isn't a line for everyone.
duckydoty Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I was looking at some of that stuff today for crappie fishing. The floor leader is a great idea A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Bill Jr. Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 RS - What is the buoyancy of the line? does it float or sink.
97procraft Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I have not used it yet, but I plan on having it on my spinning tackle this year. As far as the buoyance, It sinks.

The thing is it was 10lb line on a medium action rod. And the fish I was fishing for weren't more than 2lbs at most. 10lb line shouldn't snap the instant pressure is put on it. And that's what it was doing. I can pull a boat across a lake with 10lb Yozuri when I get hung up. I'll stick with that. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

moguy1973 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 It all fit on my spinning reel and I scrapped it when I took it off. Chalked that $20 up to a lesson learned. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
