oneshot Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 How does Gasconade compare to Niangua as far as Fishing and Water?? oneshot
Al Agnew Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 In some ways they are pretty similar. The upper Niangua, above Bennett Spring, always reminds me of the upper Gasconade above Hazelgreen, but that stretch of the Gasconade is considerably longer and ends up getting a little bigger. The lower Niangua, below the trout water, is like a faster version of the middle Gasconade--the Gasconade has a lot more long, dead pools. The lower Gasconade, below the mouth of the Big Piney, is bigger water than anywhere on the Niangua. I haven't fished the Niangua enough to know how the fishing compares. Of course, there are no trout in the Gasconade, since it's not fed by any of the biggest springs, although Boiling Spring is a pretty good sized spring even by Ozark standards.
Greasy B Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Niangua seems a little easier to fish, if for no other reason than the pools are shorter and the different habitats are closer. There are times on the Gasconade when only the heads and tails of pools are fishing well and they are often far apart. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 You would probably like it from Hazelgreen on down. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
joeD Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Bass? trout? catfish? drum? crappie? walleye? meth ? loose women? What is your quarry? Both rivers have water. Both are good. One is not better than the other. After 1100 posts, you should know that.
