Guest Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I'm looking for the best rod at slinging the A-rig. I'm a newb at this technique and haven't caught a fish with it. I can tell you that my heavy jig rod doesn't have the strength to lug this beasty contraption. Your observations? My budget is $100-$200 Thanks
cullinby9 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 abu garcia veritas 7'11" 99.99$ Its lightweight for its size I matched mine with a Lews and its perfect. I throw bigger baits and needed as much rod as I could get its held up so far to my abuse before I was using a 7'6" all star extra heavy it snapped trying to unhang from a tree. The garcia is much more comfortable to fish with all day.
moguy1973 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 If you want one that's specifically made to throw and retrieve the A-rig, Shimano has a Crucial model that goes for $170, Seeker has a couple that are $230 and $240 (I know a little more than your budget), Lamiglas has one that goes for $200, Powell has one that goes for $170, and if you like yellow Wright and McGill has a Skeet Reese one that goes for $120. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/searchresults.html?search=products&searchtext=umbrella+rod&x=0&y=0 http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Seeker_Casting_Rods/catpage-SEEKCR.html (One is a Paul Elias version) Of course there are also some that are a lot more expensive. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Dutch Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I'm using a 6.5' Fenwick HMG and it is working for me but I limit my heads to 3 1/4 oz jigs.
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Look at the 7'- 9' salmon rods with 2oz on the top of the lure weight range range. With a lot of weight you will get more distance with a longer rod simply because they give the lure more time to come up to speed. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
WakenLake Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Lews makes a rod special for the Arig they are on Bennett in springfield or tacklewarehouse might have some. www.jordanvalleyautorepair.com
