oneshot Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Last couple years didn't seem as many Trout being stock in the river.I suspected because of work on the Hatchery.Just hoping to see more this year. Just wondering anyone else seeing the same and thoughts? oneshot
podum Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 same thoughts. same hope for this year. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
fishinwrench Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 With the immensely upgraded hatchery operation up and running now SURELY the trout holding portion of the Niangua will become awesome soon. Right? Or did they just do all that in order to improve the "already good" fishing within the park?
dennis boatman Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I have only fished the niangua below Bennett seriously for about 3 years, so I don't have that timeline that you guys may have. In my limited experience, I haven't seen any change, except my experience in making it easier to locate the trout. I have always had, and still do, have a catch rate of about 1 trout per hour on the river. I never fish the park, and only go to Taney about every other year. The Niangua, to me, is closest to a "wild" fishing experience I can get here, even though they are stocked fish. A strike indicator is just a bobber...

Ok truth in past make 3 cast if don't have a fish they weren't biting, and there was some size to them. Now like you say I average couple fish an hour. oneshot
podum Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Dennis, I agree with Oneshot. The last 3 years have been much more difficult than the 4 years before that. I've only been going to the Niangua consistently for that 7 year period. The difference in the last few years has been striking. I agree with you that the fishing experience on the Niangua is excellent, especially compared with the parks and Taney. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
