I'm assuming that you are getting a Gen 2. The best advice I can give you is to read your manual at least twice and take it with you on the water. Did you get the lss 2 box and transducer to have side and down scan?

If you are installing it on a fast boat, set your ping speed to 19 to help it lock on to the bottom better, be sure to select the proper transducer in the installation menu and set your fishing mode to fresh water.

Most people use that navionics cards. You will also need to get an sd card for wpt file management and sonar logging.

it is a gen 2 and no, i didn't buy the lss2 just yet. i have to squirrel away more funds. it is not going on a fast boat, its going on my duck/fishing boat. off to read the manual!

If u are using it to navigate I would recommend the inSight map. If you are fishing i would say Navionics. The Navionics has a lot mor detail. Almost too much when u are navigating. They have a lot of contour lines. InSight gives a 3d image of the lake. Not near as detailed when Zoomed in. Fantastic for navigating though.

Congratulations! I've heard Bruce Samson's Lowrance instructional video is quite good.

I also found youtube instructional vidoes by searching Bruce Samson Dr. Sonar.

Enjoy your new sonar!
