Tim Smith Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 6 to 10 day temp forecast just issued. This will wind up being a very cold March. And by the way, the NWS departures from normal are about -4 thus far this month, and it will go lower. By Friday the will be -20 belw normal. ...yes it goes on and on my friends.
Martin Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 IMHO..........Climate Change = Climate natural cycles......Nothing much to do with humans. Possibly NOTHING to do with humans. Al sold lots of books though.....(like HE knows)..... And jdmidwest: It wasn't cows, it was Buffalo's........(hehe).....towtonka.........lol
Haris122 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I disagree on the NOTHING to do with humans part. We were able to put a big dent in the ozone layer with some chemicals used for refrigirants in just a few decades, we have been able to cut down a heap of forest and kill off a heap of animals in the past 100 years. All of these are significant things humans have managed to do. Why then are we unable to contribute upping the temperature at a faster pace than it otherwise would've, with the 3 or so billion extra human population on this earth in just the last 50 years, along with a whole heap more cars than there used to be (apparently at least a billion on the road by now), and a heap more livestock that we have around to feed us. No easy fix for sure, since people including myself like to eat (meat specifically) and be able to get someplace in a reasonable amount of time, but to say it's all natural just cause Al Gore said otherwise and profited off of it, I don't see the logic in that.
Justin Spencer Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Don't let them rope you in Haris, even those that won't admit it know humans sure aren't doing the planet any favors. Al Agnew Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I don't really blame Phil for watching these threads closely. This is an issue that has long since left the realm of science and become a religion...on both sides. Here's what I see as undeniable facts: 1. Temperatures have been rising. ALL data sources show that the decade of the 1990s was warmer than the 1980s, the 2000s were warmer than the 1990s, and so far the 2010s have been warmer than the 2000s. This is a consistent trend. 2. Rising ocean temperatures and rising land temperatures change weather patterns, causing more extreme weather events. 3. Extreme weather events are occurring more frequently. 4. Melting sea ice in the Arctic is well documented. 5. Glaciers in much of the world are melting at an increasing rate. 6. Permafrost in the Arctic is also melting. 7. Melting permafrost, among other things, releases methane. 8. Carbon dioxide is a proven greenhouse gas. 9. There are other greenhouse gases, including methane, that are much more effective greenhouse gases. 10. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased by about 40% in the last 100 or so years. 11. Other greenhouse gases have also increased. 12. So far, no "natural" source of climate warming has been shown to be occurring at a rate that would explain the observed warming. 13. Climate modeling, which is where we get climate change forecasts, is an imperfect science, but nearly all climate models show warming resulting from CO2 and other human caused sources. The variance in climate models is in the degree and speed of warming, not that it isn't and won't occur. 14. The vast majority, on the order of 95%, of scientists throughout the world who specialize in fields relevant to climate science agree that human induced climate change is occurring. Draw your own conclusions.
Justin Spencer Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 The only reason I can see for not believing the theory is if you think the scientific information has been falsified, otherwise it's pretty cut and dried. jdmidwest Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Anybody get any snow today? Last year I was mowing the yard by now. That is a big change in climate if you only look at things short term....
