jpb2187 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hey everyone, I will be down by Taneycomo this week and I was just wanting to know of some good spots to go on foot. I figured Sheperd of the Hills was probably my best bet/closest. Does anyone know what time I can actually start there? Is it the same dawn to dusk rules like most conservation areas? Any other spots are welcome. Thanks!
Dave Cook Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Fishing near the Hatchery is usually pretty good. It's open to fishing 24/7. Check the generation schedule for wadable water. http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx Tommorrows forecast is usually available between 4:30 and 5 pm each dam. And for real time actual generation information and lake levels call the dam at 417-336-5083 Dave Cook Missouri Trout Fishermen's Association - Kansas City
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 If you're looking for keepers you might try the old downtown area, I assume you can still fish there. Depending on where you're staying, Empire park at Ozark Beach has lots of bank space and is open. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
jpb2187 Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Thanks! I think we are staying at Wyndham Mountain Vista, which is right by the dam. My wife's parents are taking the whole family down there, so I plan to sneak out every morning to get some fishing in. Thanks for the advice guys.
Terrierman Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 If you're not wading another option close to where you're staying is the Fall Creek Boat Dock. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fall-Creek-Marina-Trout-Dock/163921233635219
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 12, 2013 Root Admin Posted March 12, 2013 Cooper Creek Access has a dock for fishing too.
jpb2187 Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Thanks guys... Am I pretty much SOL without waders for the area right below the dam? I'm thinking I should just pick up a cheap pair on craigslist.
Terrierman Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Taneycomo is too cold to wade wet even in August. Waders or fish off one of the docks are your options without a boat.
jpb2187 Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 Yeah, I didn't mean getting in the water w/o waders... I'm not that crazy. I just meant to ask if it was worth fishing from the shoreline in that area.
