dtrs5kprs Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I got them off a coworker for $20. I plan to start refurbishing these old plugs next week, since I cant fish right now. The triangular cut out is at the line tie. thanks Now I am all ??? Was thinking maybe someone had bubba'ed them for trolling. Thought the Pee Wee just had the cup and the narrow bill.
Guest Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Now I am all ??? Not sure about your question. LOL I somehow managed to strip the paint off that Pee Wee wart with some denatured alcohol and elbow grease. It wasnt easy and Im not going to try that method for a while. That clear bait is going to be a phantom green craw someday. All of these baits will be hanging off a spinning rod in the canoe this summer.
troutgnat Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I've seen that triangle cut-out myself......it was before my era. I'm thinking it was back in the 80's. My history of the wart doesn't go back that far, sorry. But I will say "Way to make another steal". Some of us are really getting the deals. I'm loving this thread! Were really seeing some history now. I love the looks of those pee and wee warts. Anybody a huge fan of the flat warts as well? troutgnat Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 TrophyfishR, you said phantom green craw......makes me grin......I plan on painting a few of those myself. My last phantom greens I tweaked out with a little blue. On this next run I'm doing a phantom green with purple accents. Better tune, better deflection off cover, but still with a nice tight wiggle for cold water. Think I will sit down once I am done packing for the lake, or maybe while I am there, and try to come up with an organized way to cover the major wart topics, with a focus on variations, collecting, rehabbing. Maybe send it to Phil as an article.

I would like to see the end results, if you dont mind posting them. We're a bunch of crankbait hoarders!
troutgnat Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Don't you love it. I love your idea on the wart article. That will really stir up some interest. Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"

Don't paint a watermelon candy, watermelon red, or green pumpkin with orange wart. Especially in phantom. You are going to get your arm and thumb hurt. If you get the transparency vs. opacity correct, painting phantom colors with a little touch of hi-lite color, and some flake in your clear is really very simple. Much easier than shooting scales, squiggles, stripes.

Keep the paint super thin with extra transparent medium, and the PSI up. Should shoot like pure color without any paint to it. One color they never did make in phantom was a red craw.
