I reached the magic age of 60 this year which means I can get a lifetime fishing permit for only $35, what a deal. Of course you just can't walk in and buy one. You have to print out a form and mail it in, it took about a week before it arrived in the mail. I'm sure everyone on this forum know this but when I brought this fact up at work, only a few knew about this.... so if your 60 get a lifetime fishing permit or a fishing/hunting permit.

Who over 40 would pay $300 up front for a license?

But you don't need them after 65. You still have to buy the deer and turkey tags

Because if you live another 30 years its 10.00 per year cost whereas a new license with the permits a year = up to 29.00 a year

The time value of money for $300 for 20 years is worth at least $750 if you invest.....the license is the worst up front investment ever.

After 20 years when you're 60 the license is only $35

But what if you planned on moving out-of-state, but returning to hunt and fish regularly as a non-resident? The payoff is about 1/3 of the time, after that.

WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk.

You can also get one for free at 65 and they throw in a hunting license. No permits though.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Mitch, I had to calculate that one myself and you're spot on even for a conservative estimate. That assumes that the costs don't go up in the next 20 years, but you're right...not such a great deal. What's the cost for a non-resident? If it was $300, I'd buy two just to be safe.

One assumes that trout are included in this "Lifetime Fishing Permit"? If so then a fishing permit plus a trout permit currently equals $19 per year. So if you're 40 the Lifetime Permit covers 25 years at $19 per year = $475.

Very likely the permit fees will rise at some rate. I don't know what an actuary might say about the chances of 40-year old angler living to be 65, nor do I know what the MDC might say about the number of people who buy a permit at 40 who still buy them at 50.

There's also the value of showing off to friends and family around the fire pit or at the bar drunk one evening.

Sounds like an alright deal to me.

I bought mine, Lifetime Hunt and Fish 600.00. Couple years later I moved to Arkansas

Nonresident Conservation Order Permit (*, 2) Nonresident

$40.00

Migratory Bird Hunting Permit (2) Anyone $6.00

Nonresident Fishing Permit () Nonresident $42.00

Trout () Anyone $7.00

White River Border Lakes Permit () MO or AR Resident $10.00

Nonresident Small Game Hunting Permit (*) Nonresident $80.00

Im sure im forgetting a few things but 185.00 a year vs 600 and ive lived in AR 5 years now so my license is paid off almost 2 fold if i did that right.
