mic Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I wish I could take a pic of this, but it is to small. I know you might be getting tired of my midge experiments, but let me tell you though it looks perfect and should make one hell of a dropper. The use of the ultra wire instead of thread gives it a clean look and a little more wieght. Receipe: 1. Hook: Dai-Riki #135 scud hook size 22 2. Bead: Silver 1/16" or 1.5mm 3. Thread: 12/0 black 4. Body: - Two pieces of black extra small ultra wire - One piece of silver extra small utltra wire 5. Collar: Peacock herl Instructions: 1. Debarb if you prefer and slide the bead on 2. Start the thread behind the bead 3. Take all three pieces of ultra wire and align the tips or cut them square 4. Tie them on top starting right behind the bead and take them down to the bend 5. Take the thread back to the bead 6. Complete a half turn of the wire and then flatten them out side-by-side 7. Carefully wrap them up the hook to the bead while keeping the wires side-by-side making a clean spiral of the silver against the black 8. Tie on a single peacock herl and wrap one or twice, but not to much. 9. Whip finish
Brian K. Shaffer Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 dude you gotta show us a pic somehow............... Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Buzz Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Yeah, I'd like to see it too. It sounds pretty good. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
duckydoty Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 After fishing one of your flies today, I want to see it also. I will post a report on the fly in a little bit. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
mic Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 Thanks all, I'll try to take a pic tonight when I get home. Duck, Your killing me... can't wait for the report.
mic Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 Sorry, Took me a while. PIC isn't great but you get my approach.
duckydoty Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I like it a lot Mic! You should try the black shiny bead. I have found on Taney with the smaller midges the black shiny (black chrome) beads out perform the copper, silver and gold beads. I tie a simple size 18 and 20 black thread midge with the black chrome bead and now wire wraps the works very well at times. Wanted to get out this weekend and give the blue midge a try, but the weather has kept me off the water. End of next week is looking to be a little more conducive to fishing Taney a little more comfortably. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Nice thing about small flies, cheap to mail.
