JohnF52 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Fished Wedington again today. Surface temp read 76 degrees. Could not even catch a bream. I think I am done with that little lake for a while at least. It is full of water weeds in the shallows, so thick that it is hard to fish.
Members MadRussian Posted May 18, 2013 Members Posted May 18, 2013 That lake is tough.....Its really kind of strange....Its either a hit or miss for me and more times that not a miss......I have had mornings of 20+ bass then go again with the same conditions or even the next day and not got one bite. I have been skunked out there several times. I went out there spider riggin for crappie for just a couple hrs the other weekend with my wife and 3 year old. caught one that was nearly 2 lbs, a pure hoss. That was the only bite I got.
cpriest Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Hey guys I was thinking about chasing bluegill/ red ear early Monday. If you had to choose would you go to lake fayetteville or wedington? I have little experience at either.
JohnF52 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 The dock operator at Lake Fayetteville told me yesterday that the bad weather this spring had ruined fishing there. No one was catching fish according to her. I went to Wedington last week and could not even catch a bream. Used worms and slip bobber set variously at depths from four to nine feet at several different parts of that lake. We also threw some small jigs and no bites on them either. Have towel, ready to throw in! Sorry that I cannot give better news.
fisherofmen11 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Anyone ever fish lake Ft. Smith? I am taking my brother and his daughter fishing for a few hours on Monday and debating between Lee Creek or Lake Ft. Smith?
Quillback Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Fished Lake Ft Smith about 4 years ago when my brother in law and nephew were in town. Dragged around some crawlers and caught a bunch of small spotted bass. I've seen a few reports where people are saying that it has a lot of small 12" bass. One of these days I'm going to haul the boat down there and give it a shot.
J-Doc Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 Tried fishing Elmdale with the wife and kids. I now remember why I fish alone! Lol! Loading boat was a disaster. Motor flooded (trash in carb again) and some jack-wagon tried to squeeze in on a single lane ramp and load too (impatient jerk). Loading with trolling motor in 25-30mph side winds is not fun. Then the motor fires once on the trailer. (Figures) I at least got out on Beaver early this morning for a solitary hour. It was great. Need marine repair? Guest Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I fished lake ft smith before they combined it with shepherd springs. SS was an awesome lake with lots of small bass. Now that's its been flooded per say, I haven't been back that much. The schooling bite in summer and fall was ridiculous. It was a fun lake to fish
J-Doc Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 If anyone knows the key to Elmdale, shoot me a PM. I haven't written it off "yet" and would lime to give it one more try (without the kids) to see what it's about. Too much mill foil/coontail......whatever the heck it was. I couldn't get but one bite on a big ole worm on a bobber. I think the wind shut down the bite but I know there were panfish around. I saw them surface and saw them on the graph. Lots of pressure for a such a small sized lake though. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. JohnF52 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 From what I have seen of it the locals living along the north bank fish Elmdale very hard and keep what they catch. Limb lines, trotlines, cast nets, etc.
