I know you don't want online references, but, Just for the sake of others, I have used www.jackssmallengines.com and have been very satisfied with the results. I have no affiliation with them, but I am always leary of using a website I have no prior knowledge of. I tried them a few times and was very satisfied with them.

Does anyone know how to read a TYPE on a Briggs and Stratton motor?I know what the MODEL and CODE numbers mean, but i dont know how to read the TYPE.I know that it has something to do with paint, decals, governed speed, and manufacturer.I found a flywheel that is the same model and year but the TYPE is different.Im concerned about the governed speed. The MODEL and CODE are explained in detail but i cant find anything on how to read the TYPE.thanks

Not sure of what significance the "type" is, but if you cross reference the ignition coil and the starter part numbers between the two and they are the same then the flywheel "should" be the same.

I don't know much about mower engines specifically, but I would think that crankshafts, starters, and flywheels are pretty standard among B&S engines of the same size.

"Type" might be designating between vertical or horizontal shaft, in which case the flywheel would (should) be the same.

Pffft. Who am I kiddin'..... I have no idea. But I bet there's a B&S forum online somewhere, chok full of guys that could hook you up with more info than you even want to know. :)
