I'm looking at a used river boat that AFF made. It's 21'x54" I believe. Big sucker. I'm a big fan of the layout and hope to take it for a spin this weekend. I can't find much about them at all. One of the biggest google hits turns up the river boat thread on this site. I know there's a little info on them in there, but I was wondering if anyone else knew much about them? The only real info on the other thread here was that they were heavy and no longer in business, though the guy who made them is apparently still around the Mountain Home area. If anyone has any personal knowledge about them, or strong feelings one way or the other, please let me know. The eventual set-up will be a 90h yamaha jet and a 24v 70lb trolling motor. It will pull double duty on the rivers and the lakes.

No, not familiar with AFF boats but I have seen the ocasional oversized river boat on the White. There must be an awful lot of displacement to support 90hp jet. I would compare the amount of rocker relative to you previous river boat. The old shawnee boats had a very pronounced rocker, great for pivoting on a river but rough to maintain position on a lake with even a light breeze.

I recently purchased a 20' AFF out of an estate. It has a Yamaha 4 stroke with both a prop and a jet pump foot, Minn Kota autopilot, and a galvanized EZ Loader with full rollers and a new electric wench. It also has a CMC hydraulic jacking plate and a newly installed Lowrance HDS5. It is ready to fish. Boat and motor are 2002 models. Seat s show wear but can anyone tell me what this rig is worth?

Can we see a picture?

I think a 90 hp motor on this boat is far more hp than you'd ever need. Previous owner was a pro fly fishing guide over in Heber Springs.

Okay...can anybody tell me what the advantages are to a fiberglass boat of this kind over the usual aluminum, if you're going to use it with trolling motor and jet?

The fiberglass doesn't grab rocks as bad as aluminum. Fiberglass should be a little faster. Fiberglass is less noisy. My Supreme seems light, but maybe an aluminum boat of the same dimensions would be lighter.

I think that a very practical aspect of it is that it is easier to start up a small company and make these boats out of fiberglass then the investment required to start up a metal boat manufacturing plant.

I'm a big fan of the Blazer boats. I saw lots of them a little too up close on the Current river. They have a basic boat with a 40 jet that seemed to really perform well.

Is the fuel tank for that AFF boat way up front? That may be the same boat that Richard Cross runs. Very stable and very practical. It may cost a little more to operate with the bigger motor.

Sweet boat,
I like my river boat because its quiet, slippery and roomy. I can load my Shawnee with gear for 4 days and both fishermen will still have twice the standing room as a typical decked aluminum boat. I can't tell how much rocker this boat has but the Shawnee will turn on a dime making eddy turns and peel outs a breeze.

That's my boat plus a center console! I have been absolutely thrilled with mine. Taking it to the elk today so we will see how it does in the wind. I don't have a clue on the value, and you have a newer motor than I do. Mines a 2 stroke 90 with the jet conversion. And I don't have the prop lower unit.

Yes the fuel tank is in front under the deck. 12 gallons plus two batteries near the front balances it nicely for me. To Als question, I don't know if I have much advantage over aluminum. I just know I got what I felt was a great deal and I couldn't be happier with comfort and performance. Yeah it burns more gas, but if economics was a huge concern for as few trips as I get, I'd still rent or wade. With minimum flow in effect, I am thrilled I decided on a jet. I think there will be a lot more on the white.
