Going down to the ozarks for the annual fishing trip. Staying at runaway 2 resort around mile marker 45 i believe. Just wondering if crappie fishing is heating up at all.

Not to worry. I hear your dad is the next best thing to having a professional crappie fishing guild in the boat. Fish are starting to move in and school up. Dont be affraid to look for the bigger males to be starting to make the nest but remember the depth of the actual spawn is realitive to the water clearity. Crappie will spawn in the right conditions as deep as 20 feet. Sounds like this weekend has a slight warming trend which will help. the wind on Saturday might make you think more about which cove you are in releative to the wind direction. The moon and its effects will leveling off each day, which isn't a bad thing it just takes the high peaks out of the fish bite and levels them off a little. All else fails you can hunker down and try to pull them off the tops of structure on the end of boat dock and if you simply can't get them to bite, just ask your dad what you are doing wrong.

Dad packing his son's booze.... Are you looking to adopt?

Hope you guys have a great trip. My father in law chased the crappie around for a little bit last weekend around the 25 mile marker and told me I didn't miss anything, but I haven't gotten a detailed report from him. If I do before the weekend, I'll let you guys know.

not looking to adopt. it was all i could do to kick the first one out of the house and off to school. Got three more i am looking to sell. Leaving work right now to go finish packing. should be on the water by noon tomorrow. if my sons laptop can find some service down there we will try to give updates to everyone as much as possible. Some updates might read a little off tilt. if so it's the booze.

I wasn't targeting crappie last week end but caught about 5 when bass fishing. I'm sure there were more than just those around. They were big ones too. Full of eggs ready to pop here really soon. These were on gravel banks in about 3 feet of water. This was around the 9mm though. If they are that shallow in the clear water. They should be the same in the dirty.

Temps up to 51 degrees today in the backs of coves on Grand Glaize. Crappie staging near banks - some already on the banks. A few more days of warmer weather, which is predicted, should get things in full swing.

You might find some males shallow but it is still the first week of April. I have spent every April weekend at the lake since 1987 when my FIL bought his place near BigDIcks. Our best fishing is around the full moon in APril. Usually the dogwoods are a bloomin. I'd be fishing staging areas this weekend including channel banks and deep brush piles. Good luck.
