Justin Spencer Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Without naming names to avoid a partisan fight, certain politicians have given up portions of their salaries as a show of support for their fellow federal employees effected by the sequester. Glad to finally see some of them sharing in the sacrifice, hope they all follow suit. jdmidwest Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Yes, it was a good jester. I think all of them should give more than 5% since they did not do anything to solve the problem. I give them my 5% also, that is what I figure my portion of tax increases will be this year. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. jdmidwest Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Note the spelling of the word gesture in my original post! Their sign of faith was a joke. Most will steal more than 5% back from the taxpayers. Justin Spencer Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 Noticed that, I'd say politicians get as fed up with us as we do with them, anytime someone willingly gives up something they aren't asked to for the good of others (and I understand this is mostly a PR act) it deserves some respect. I think we all agree that the pay raises congress has given themselves in the last few years is undeserved, those that give it back are showing that they agree and while I still have very little respect for our current congress, those in the government that are willingly giving back some of their pay are at least showing they can sacrifice with the rest of the country. Feathers and Fins Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Oh come on, They are not really giving up anything but additional luxery income. Most of them are so heavily funded by special interest and other incomes what they are paid for being a politicians is nothing. How about we do what Private sector does to people who cannot perform. TERMINATE all of them and hire on new employees because that is what they really are! I have really got to the point with all of them that I beleive they should all be fired new ones in place an a constitutional amendment added that no more than 2 terms period and that their pay should be no more than that of the average income for the area the represent and NO other income allowed during the years of service AKA NO MOONLIGHTING! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

I agree that we should get rid of them, but if you can't give them any props for willingly giving up money (especially when we want to fire them), then you really have lost all faith, I'm sure not giving up 5% of my money to help the deficit. Jack Jones Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Actually Feathers, the private sector theory you state only applies to the lower echelon. If you're in upper management (execs and CEOS) and cannot perform they usually give you a substantial buyout with stock options, pension, and golden parachutes, LOL. Even if you bankrupt the company or drive it into the ground. As always....it's good to be king! Feathers and Fins Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Why should WE (you know the people they work for) give them any props for not doing their job and then saying "oh we will take a paycut until we pass some sort of ficticious budget" Come on man you seriously do not think for one second this is really good will on their part at all do you! I fire people for not doing the job they were hired for! I dont give them pay cuts and they sure dont ever ask for a pay-cut to keep their job. ness Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I'm not impressed. Their incomes should have been on the chopping block to begin with, along with everything else. And that's all I've got to say about that. John
