LittleRedFisherman Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 Wow, I'm usually not one to stir the pot, wasn't my intention. When I posted the pic I didn't even realize it was taken on a deck, guess I needed to look closer. He posted this pic on his TV show page and the company that made the lure that he caught the Pigs on, JennyBug Baits out of Thayer MO, he said he caught them off the bank. He got nailed on there to by a guy about keeping them, he did respond and say he realeased many fish that day, and kept a couple for supper, (be it huge pigs) and was glad that a young guy like that cared for our streams. Anyhow, you can say anything, it's actions that count. I feel like you guys on here about Smallies, I've never kept one, and never will, they are truly special to me as well, but it's hard for me to chastize a guy if he did walk down from his house and catch fish in his back yard. Yes I've seen some of his shows, he usually does keep a lot of fish, won't deny that. I know a little about the southfork, and have a couple friends that live around there that fish it regular, let's just say Ole Crowbar hasn't hurt it to bad yet, it's still a fine stream, lets all hope it stays that way! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

Al Agnew Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 How in the hell did these two bafoons get a tv show? Is Crowbar the education level he achieved? That's kinda what I was wondering...of course, there's been some real doofuses with hunting and fishing related TV shows. Apparently all you need is a video camera, a couple honey holes to catch fish or kill deer, the vanity to think people want to see you, and the guts to try it.
LittleRedFisherman Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 How in the hell did these two bafoons get a tv show? Is Crowbar the education level he achieved? He's been on Tv for probably 12 or more years, his shows have aired out of Jonesboro for years, he's been on the Sportsmans channel, pursuit channel, and will be airing this summer on a new channel on Dish, think it's call the Hunt channel or something, not to mention the History channel documentary, "You don't know Dixie", which had a very good segment on him. Before he had sponsers in the early days, he made his own commercials, which were pretty entertaining. Some of his shows I thought were pretty good myself. It's obvious others have as well.. Chief Grey Bear Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I'm with Al, it doesn't take much to make a TV program of hunting or fishing anymore. It is more theatrics than talant. The hunting shows are mostly high fence attractions or shooting from one mountain top to the other. NO real hunting involved. I have never been deer hunting where I had my choice of about 15 bucks all standing around a pile of corn or clover. I am just waiting on the high fence turkey hunting too. I am sure there is already some be done though. And fishing isn't much better. All you have to do is buy 2 or 3 sets of the same clothes to wear for a week so you can get enough footage that makes you look like a fishing God. Or do like others and trade with guides that will put you on the fish for a day and you put their name on tv. And don't forget your scipt! You must blast me with your vast, superior knowledge and explain it all while holding that fish that is all wore out, out of water and pet it like a cat. Now of course, not all programs do this. But there are 10 that do for every one that doesn't. Mitch f Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Yeah, never been a fan of fishing shows, kind of like these new scripted reality shows or professional wrestling. Like Tim Smith said about the Hank Patterson video, "Finally a fishing show I can watch!" "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Al Agnew Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 At least, though, the majority of fishing show guys apparently release all the bass they catch. I don't care how many big fish there are in the South Fork, I just have a problem with keeping the big ones to eat when the smaller ones are so much better tasting. I'm with Chief, though, on holding the fish out of water for five minutes while you're expounding on the expertise it took to catch it. Drives me nuts. Why not release the fish after a quick grip and grin, and then show the lure and demonstrate the technique for that five minutes? And not only do the private waters stuffed with big fish that most of them fish not do anything for me, but also the guys who go to the same place all the time, public or private. I would be interested in a fishing show where the guy went to a different public river or lake every time, and was honest about how easy or difficult the fishing turned out to be. Can you even imagine how cool it would be to have a guy float a different stretch of Ozark stream every week, show the river, the scenery, the fishing, and anything else cool that happened, and if the fishing was tough, well, it would still be almost as interesting as floating it yourself on a slow fishing day.
mixermarkb Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 "Lost Lake" is a pretty good show. Kind of like the "Day on a Lake" in bassmaster magazine, where it dumps a pro onto a lake and shows how they go about figuring things out. It's one of the few shows I really like to catch.
Chief Grey Bear Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I really like Lunkerville. Great concept and execution. Honest fishing in that show. LittleRedFisherman Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 . That's a great idea Al, somebody needs to take this and run with it. For me, when a fishing show does a show on a river or stream, it's much more interesting to me. Bill Dance these days makes his shows the easy way with his age I guess fishing that same lake stocked with monsters, but my favorite show of his this past year, he did a two week series on fishing some streams in central Tennessee, very good shows! "Lost Lake" is a pretty good show. Kind of like the "Day on a Lake" in bassmaster magazine, where it dumps a pro onto a lake and shows how they go about figuring things out. It's one of the few shows I really like to catch. I like this one as well! Getting back to Ole Crowbar, found out today that ole Crow actually has a jig named after him from that lure company in Thayer, now when you have a lure named after ya, guess you have arrived... One thing about Crowbars show, he catches and kills stuff with primitive and inexpensive tactics, no guides and he goes to different places, now if he'd just start releasing more fish. He even did a show one time on how to catch bullfrogs with a fishing rod, now that was good TV... There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
