9LB
Spent the weekend trying to catch some fish. Overall it was a pretty poor effort. Water was 49 - 52 and down in the river it was very muddy. Looked like the Crappies were biting as CC boat ramp looked slammed? We caught 4 walleyes, 3 keepers. I was finding some when the sun was the hottest 3 pm. They were up pretty shallow on flat points throwing a gold and black rapala. Bounced a crawler harness around some points and had no luck, it was pretty windy so that spinner was really cooking ! We caught around 7 bass, only 2 over 15" on a squarebill and 1 on a chatterbait. I did land a real nice Catfish caught on a flikr Shad right by the Roark West campground. I looked at my fishing log from last year and on this same weekend last year we had averaged over 20 bass per day and I had a limit of eyes each day. When I pulled in to dock my boat there was a young fella there. I asked him if he was fishing. He said he never had and did not have a pole. I guess he was camping at Roark. I handed him a rod and helped him make a cast and WHAM he caught a little 10 inch bass ! Well he was hooked. The look on his face was priceles. So, I gave him the reel, pole, the lure and then set him up with a little tackle box. Teach a man to fish. I hope he remembers this and pays it foward. How can a young man not have a rod and a reel ? Walcrabass
9LB, I hope to meet you at the lake some day. You sound like a normal and good person. I'll bet that kid was in heaven. I have given lots of tackle to guys at the lake that weren't catching anything. Came back later to find that most of them started catching fish. Makes your day better than limiting out. Good Job!!! Big Keene
Nice job passing it on. we were fishing out of Mutton Creek last weekend, and it was pretty slow. No walleye, 6 total-4 slab12+" crappie, 1 white bass, and about 15 LM, 2 keepers. all crappie were 15', and the bass were scattered. crappie hit jigs and minnows and trolled cranks, bass hit cranks, jigs, jerkbaits and jigs tipped with crawlers. Sac River Jim
i am a firm believer, if you put a child on the water or in the woods you keep him off the streets. i know at times i get in such a hurry i might have not even noticed a similar young man on the bank. i commend you for taking the time to introduce that young man to a passion he may have for the rest of his life. 9LB
I have three girls who love to boat, not really fish that much. I was that young man about 40 years ago, standing at the boat ramp in Theodosia and a old fella gave me an old reel to use. He seen me casting my pole and then pulling my line in since the crank did not work. I was from Michigan and we came down for a family deal. I remember it was like it was yesterday.
