Members tpierce Posted April 23, 2013 Members Posted April 23, 2013 I've got a 2011 Merck 250 pro xs that has lost approx 5-7 mph. I did get into some gravel / sand which visibly scuffed my 3 blade prop last October. Hole shot / acceleration also not as strong. Even though the prop doesn't look too bad could that be my issue? Boat is running 69 mph when it was running 75. Also starting to want to chine at 65 mph vs 73 mph.
dblades Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I don't know about 7 mph but it doesn't take much damage to lose some performance. John's Hot Props is where I took mine and need to take it again from a similiar incident.
vacation Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Yes...damage to prop will do it's..also water temp, fuel weight, etc... But a clean prop is a must
Members Wesley Posted April 23, 2013 Members Posted April 23, 2013 are you sure the prop is not slipping, there is a rubber bushing inside the center of the prop, they can get a little loose. Take it to Dyna Prop on 76 by Cape Fair they can fix. If you are going to get your prop redone they can check it. To lose that nuch speed it would have to be really bad.
fishinwrench Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Instead of watching your speed (MPH), watch your tach. Have you lost or gained top end RPM?
Troy Gregg Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Tucker... Are you running a fury prop? If so you lost your cup, happened to mine last year I lost 8 mph when it went flat rooms climbed a little too Troy Gregg
Members tpierce Posted April 23, 2013 Author Members Posted April 23, 2013 I'm running a Tempest 26 pitch. I think I've lost some RPM's and it doesnt really respond to the throttle like it did. Still sounds good, and runs 65mph or so at 5800rpms but she isnt the same. It definately didn't try to chine at 65 mph like it does now. I don't think my jack plate has moved on me either. I got into some gravel and sand and scuffed the prop as I said but also sucked up some gravel into the intake and had to replace the water pump ect. After all that, that is when I've noticed a difference.
Troy Gregg Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Did you notice the loss in speed/power right away or has it started happening recently? Are you getting any kind of warning beeps? Also you may run a bottle of Quickleen through her. If its gummed up a little, that will clean all the carbon out. There was another guy who had that issue and its coming back into its groove. It's all speculation until you can get warning horns or run a new or clean prop to see if that's in fact the issue. Troy Gregg
Members rs00765605 Posted April 24, 2013 Members Posted April 24, 2013 Props - Now there is a sore subject for me. I run a 20' Skeeter with a 200 Yamaha. I cannot get this thing even close to doing what it is supposed to do. Every 3 blade prop I put on there throws an ear within 2 or 3 trips out. Some props run ok, and others run like crap. The best I've found is a 27-M, but I can't keep blades on it. Right now I am running a 4-blader which is WAY too small for my setup, but I just watch the RPM's and putt along about 58-60 with NO performance. I worked with John at Hot Props for quite a while and he can't get it. Matt at Dyna prop says I need a 26 Tempest, but it won't stay together either. And No, I'm not hitting anything either. I can throw a blade off a 3 blader in 100' ft of water within the 3rd or 4th run on that prop. Any ideas?
