Guest Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I'm starting to convert over to full sun protection as I get older and the summers get longer and hotter. Back in the day, I just used sun block but I've found that's not enough protection for 8-12 hours in the searing heat. Simms makes some really cool stuff, but its confusing and expensive. What do you hardcore sun blockers wear to protect your skin, head, eyes, hands, etc? Im making a wishlist for my birthday, so any advice will help.
Gavin Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Get a Buff for your head, and some sunchecker gloves in addition to a long sleave shirt, wide brim hat, and lightweight pants.
Mitch f Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 What ever you wear, make sure it says "sport" that way it won't drip in your eyes when you sweat "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Guest Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I should've been more specific. I've got the light weight long sleeve shirt and pants, Im looking at this deal, it looks stupid but I will try anything to keep from spraying on sunblock. http://www.simmsfishing.com/shop/sportswear/solarflex-hoody.html The buff really gives me fits bc it fogs up my sunglasses when pulled over my nose. That's probably the most frustrating part. What about this? http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Simms_Sun_Gaiter/descpage-SSG.html I alternate between a straw hat and a trucker style ball cap. but the straw hat isn't packable like the other stuff. I normally wear 30-50 spf sun block. Spray on is good, but it seems to lose its effectiveness after several hours. I just hate that sticky feeling after spraying it on my skin. Have yall tried those sleeves from tackle warehouse? http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Simms_Sun_Sleeve/descpage-SSUS.html Any suggestions on sunglasses? I buy the flying fisherman for $30, but I would rather have a very thin frame light weight pair. So they fit under the buff better.
Clayton Will Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 This was me about half the time in Florida this winter. I also wear the Balaclava during the heat of the day when I am out for a week vacation. If you are on an antibiotic such as Doxiclene, this is a must. Once I burned so bad my bottom lip was split for a week. What's that tell you about me. ( I don't tan anymore, Just Burn unfortunately. The Balaclava's are cooler than you might thing and can be bought plain, camo or with fish lures on them from most sporting goods. The good ones have an air vent/flap in the back like the better fishing shirts. If you want some really cool ones check out West Marine on line.

Balaclava.jpg I know what you mean about that antibiotic, its no joke. I nearly burnt the skin off my left arm driving back from vacation while on something similar.
Mitch f Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 As far as glasses, I like the Strike King Optics 2, about $35 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Guest Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I find that water bottles are a pain when Im strictly wading and have to carry everything for the duration. What about a hybrid camel pack and wading vest?
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Long sleeve 50 SPF shirts, wide brim hats and a Buff. I still have trouble remembering it all, but I'm at a must point. The Buff's aren't real expensive and they have a ton of designs aimed toward anglers. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
jdmidwest Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I am starting to see some skin blotching that I need to see a dermatologist about. I have been wearing SPF 50 for the most part the last few years, and a big floppy hat to cover face, ears, and neck. I always wear a t shirt and shorts for the main part ot the summer with sunblock and avoid all sunburn. When I was young, I did not worry about it much. Now I wish I had of, my arms and hands are really showing it now. Of course, someone said the other day it might just be liver spots. Maybe I need to check my internals for alcohol poisioning.
