Best Wake Baits?

I am new to the wake bait game, it seems to be a very effective technique on Table Rock. I do have couple of Redfins and some DEPS buzz jets but have not thrown them a lot. Any suggestions on other brands that I should consider? Also any tips on the time of year when this technique is more effective. I have heard early in season, postspawn, and fall is this correct? Thanks for any help.

Lucky Craft LC Wake Crankbait and Buckeye Wake Up are a couple good ones. The Lucky Craft comes in several sizes and have impressive paint job. They cast a mile, with one regular treble hook and a feathered tail treble. The Buckeye is a long slender bait similar to an unjointed Redfin but with a sharply down-turned lip.

We caught a half dozen wake bait fish this morning but many more just swirled or swatted at it. As the water warms this will improve and is a ton of fun.

I like the Buckeye Wake Up as well. Caught my PB smallie (4lb 14 oz) down there on it the day before the Easter weekend record flood a couple of years ago.

Have some old, old (tipoff about my age?) jointed floating Rapalas that do a great job as finesse wake baits. Similar to jointed Redfin but with a softer, slower action. Real fish catchers especially post spawn.

Thanks I have seen the both the Buckeye and the LC crankbaits and they both look good will give them a try.

Here's a wakebait I fished today for the first time, picked up a spot and had a few strikes. I'm not saying that it is the best wakebait, but I like what I've seen so far.

If you have deep pockets look at the Brian's Bees. Spendy, but they run. Have been playing with braid for wakers and like it quite a bit so far. Seems to help the fin especially.

Bite picks up once they hit the beds, and then through the post spawn. They will eat it over beds, long points, gravel flats, bluff ends, and swings with old big trees. Also middle of deep coves for the post spawn smallies. Seems like sometime in mid-June they switch to smaller non-wake baits like the Yellow Magic. Who knows this year? Maybe when it isn't snowing or frosting would be the best time to throw it at them.

Redfins and Storm Thundersticks are both good options. If you can tune one just right they are hard to beat but the lucky craft is probably my favorite, especially on schooling fish. It's smaller size seems to get better hookups than redfins or spooks, in my opinion

I see that Tackle Warehouse has a daily special on a wake bait (they must read this forum ), never have tried this particular bait, but it looks like it could catch fish. It is a bit small, and only weighs 1/3 oz, but that could be a good thing. Like I need an excuse to buy more stuff from TW, but this looks tempting.

I've not been able to get the little wakers to work at TR. They are good in small lakes and ponds, especially with grass.

Think the fin and others are flipping the switch by looking like a big gizzard shad idling along the surface. The bass seem to like a bigger bait.
