Ham Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Worked early yesterday and I work late today so I shoe horned a quick trip to BSL inbetween. Fished from 7 PM until 10:30 PM. Mainly fished Jimmy Creek. Water is CLEAR. Gin. Water temp ~ 63 ' wind was light. We caught a few bass almost immediately. Lots of fish cruising. Lots of fish on beds immediately under the buck brush. They should be safe and have a GOOD spawn IF they leave the water level up for a couple more weeks. We caught all three species of bass and all were good chunks, but maybe two keepers. Lots of follows and lookers, but the bites we got were the real deal. Pretty disappointed by an absolute lack of bites after dark. Not a whiff. Tried jerkbaits, swimbaits, grubs, flicker shads, and spinnerbaits after dark. Nada. I was also disappointed to get zero bites on my Super Spook Jr late in the day. It got nothing. I really expected it to get crushed. Today should be awesome IF you're lucky enough to have the day off. Lake is pretty busy. Lots of folks out trying to enjoy themselves. Don't expect to be lonely. mixermarkb Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Thanks for the report! I'm stuck in St. Louis this week, so I won't be able to go annoy any of the bass, but it's good to hear someone is getting after them.
roy_eros Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Fished in the same area Tues. and Wed. evenings from about 6-dark. Caught a bunch of short fish like you mentioned along with 2 solid 3 pounders each night. Don't give up on the spook!
Ham Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Ohhhhhhhh I won't ever give up on the spook. I will give it a decent try most days I fish between now and when I quit fishing the lake. I'll become a river rat when the bite slows during the summer. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members Col Ron Posted May 13, 2013 Members Posted May 13, 2013 We need ten more degrees on the water temperature, then it will even out. What a difference a year makes!!!!
