Travis Swift Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Don't see alot of reports on here so thought I would post. Ran water all week but we caught a ton of fish. The only place we fished all week was front the old sun valley dock area to the Cooper Creek ramp area on the bluff side. Averaged 40 to 60 rainbows and a couple brown's each morning and was off the water by 8:30 am. Usually made 2 passes the last hour of daylight with another 25 or so caught. Wednesday morning we had 67 bows by 7:30 am. Only kept enough to fry up 2 nights. The rest are swimming. All fish came on the Trout Magnet and all hooked in the lips and returned safely. Can't wait to get back down in November
Members DerekB Posted June 14, 2013 Members Posted June 14, 2013 That's a lot of fish on a trout magnet. I've caught a few on the magnet (pink, I think), but not in those numbers. How deep were you fishing it? We're heading down next weekend and we'll be there a week. I'd be nice if the dry fly fishing would pick up during that time. Thanks for the report.
Travis Swift Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 honestly i average 50 to 100 fish each morning of each trip for the past 7 years i've been using that magnet down there. i don't fish it like everyone else though, i don't use an indicator. I fish it straight and basically sight fish by watching them eat it. depth doesn't matter as long as it's close to the bottom.
Seth Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I caught my biggest trout down there (27" rainbow that weighed around 10#") jigging a white trout magnet. Somebody else had recently lost the fish on a white power egg as it had about a foot of line with the hook and power egg still in its mouth. I've not used the much down there though mainly becuase we usually fish the trophy area. I've always fished them by jigging and never with a float. I did watch a kid do well on trout by drifting a rootbeer colored trout magnet below a float at Meramec Springs a few months ago though so I need to give that method a try sometime.
Members DerekB Posted June 14, 2013 Members Posted June 14, 2013 I'll be giving it a try when I get down there. I've always fished it near the bottom under a small float. I've got several colors, white being one of them.

How do you sight fish when you are in water from 8-15 feet deep in the stretch you were fishing? It is really deep where you were picking all of them up. How is your rod rigged to fish that deep? What colors do you prefer?
