dtrs5kprs Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Would highly recommend fishing out of Baxter, Joe Bald, Mill, or 13. Really the same basic areas, but different options based on how far you want to tow and run. Lots of fish to be had on the main lake flat gravel in 15'-30' dragging a FB jig, split shot, Ned Rig, shakey head. Tube should work out there also. Lots of those places in the stretch between Pt 7 and Baxter. Brown fish were ripping the jig. 1/2 or 3/4oz on the FB based on wind, 1/4oz shakey and split shot. Might also try downsizing the c-rig to a centipede or fish doctor vs. the critter baits. James might be a mess for a while after the recent deluge. You pretty much have to be right over fish for the drop shot to be much fun. Others may disagree, but that is certainly the most efficient use of it. If you have some top water chasers but no takers, be slow to leave them but don't continue to force the TW on them. Fish below (suspended) or on bottom with one of the above baits or a smoke grub/small swimmer. There are lots of bass under those schools of fish eating leftovers and crumbs as they come down. We just returned from Kim City...with my 8yo and 12yo we were making the first cast slightly before 5am, fished till about noon at the latest if we had clouds and low traffic.
abkeenan Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Ditto. If you can't beat them, join them. But that would make you a Jayhawk abkeenan. You know it's your pic, I can't lay off it. lol Hahaha. Hey now. Trust me MIZZOU has made me want to switch sides MANY times. Especially with their last 2 early exits in the NCAA March Madness tournaments and maybe more so the way they choke in big games in football. If you are a betting man take whoever MU is playing in a bowl game cause they just fold like lawn chairs. I have been this close to becoming a life long Longhorns fan sooooo many times. For once it would just be nice to root for a winner. I guess now I know what it means to be a lifer Cubs fan.
flyman Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks, dtrs5kprs. Great advice. I'll give those suggestions a try also. Lots to learn!
Jason Essary Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 +1. baxter to kim. fish the "sides" of the long points. target 15 to 20 foot. FB's and shakey heads (I just never got into the c-rig). Also the split shot rig. And always have a rod with something for schoolers if they pop up. Shad is a plus but not a must have, There are plenty of crunchy crawlies down there for the brown fish to snack on.
