Going to make a trip to Crooked Creek this Sunday with my Grandpa. Will be fishing Snow to Pyatt. I figure the bite has turned on with it being the middle part of June already.

If anyone has been, or plans on going soon I would love to hear a report.

Thanks and Good Luck

Going upstream that whole way is going to be tough ; I'd go from Pyatt to Snow if I were y'all (jk).

Crooked Creek will be fine UNLESS we get a huge rain and it's blown out. Otherwis they're gonna bite. That run gets plenty of looks so I would imagine any dangerous stuff has been cut out. Keep yours eyes open though. I have not made that run this year, but maybe soon.

Haha just realized that was backwards, that would be a tough paddle. Talked to a friend today that had some luck w/ a fluke over the weekend.

Lots of people love a fluke for creek smallies. I never throw it. I'm either fishing from the yak or standing in the water and I don't have the rod angle I want for fishing a fluke. I catch more than a few doing other stuff though.

That's a decent stretch and you'll do fine no matter what you throw. It's June/July and you're fishing a creek with plenty of fish. You'll catch them on anything. I'm with Ham on rod position as I like to stand up tall with a rod tip down to really fish a fluke, but only the big ones are discerning. A fluke wouldn't be my #1 choice this time of year, but I have caught some really nice fish on one and wouldn't hesitate to use it. Late in the day when they really get up shallow chasing minnows, it can be an awesome bait.

Pyatt to Snow will suck. The gauge at Kelly is 9 something. At that level, you will do a lot of dragging. Lots of dragging. Lots of shallow pools. Lots of super clear water. Sure, it's an adventure, sure no one will be there, sure there are plenty of fish there, sometimes, but... Don't say you weren't warned.

Make no mistake, the white super fluke is a lock first round Hall of famer.

The worst part about Crooked Creek being super low is the areas of slick bedrock with a thin layer of algae. Being as careful as I could be with felt soles, I've still fallen hard. Several areas that you WILL encounter are just plain difficult.

Crooked Creek has a very narrow window for good fishing and good floating.

Well, we ended up having a great trip. The water was on the low side but the fishing made up for it. Easily caught 30+ smallmouth with 4 over 16" and one that pushed 18". They bit everything we threw at them (brush hogs, lizards, live minnows, tubes).

Will definatly be going back soon.
