It was a good morning for smallies. I took out a couple of friends just for a couple of hours in the morning. We tried some top water at first with no luck. The fish were chasing shad but not our imitations. We moved to Indian Point and switched to tubes and a football jig. The fish were still coming up there but still didn't want a spook. They did however eat the tube like crazy. If we didn't hook them the first time they would come right back and hit it again. I threw a 3/8oz PB&J Pigsticker football jig and did about the same as the tubes. Most of the fish were between 15 and 1 fow. We fished from 5am until 9am. Indian Point was the place to be.

Thanks for the report. Congrats on a good morning. What locations were you fishing the jig & tube? Main lake points, steep banks, flat gravel, pockets?

Spoke to Darrin, and the locations were all of the above, on a single very nice stretch of bank. Again he pointed out this is an early bite. Most of it is way over before 9 AM.

The breakdown has been, 0500 to 0700 about 20 fish to the boat. 0700 to 0900 about 5 or 6 fish. After 10 AM to 5 PM Good Luck

Ain't that the truth! I'm getting used to driving to the Big M in the dark early morning. Only good thing about it is there's no traffic. Just got to watch out for the deer.

Just what Bill said, all of the above. The bite slowed way down about 9am. Went out yesterday evening and caught a few doing the same thing. just dragging a tube or football jig real slow on the bottom.

Kind of funny you should mention the deer. My neighbor Terry Thomas has a beautiful house and yard just before you go into old 86 park on the right side of the road. They have been doing landscape for 7 yrs. and are really getting it nice. I counted 14 does and fawns this morning grazing in his front yard before 0500. He has a sprinkler system, so I'm sure they were also there to shower and get ready for their days work, along with breakfast.

Terry is providing the ideal suburban deer habitat even providing showers. :have-a-nice-day:

That's funny, guys go to all that trouble to plant food plots and so on to attract deer to their property for deer season, heck just do some nice landscaping, put in expensive shrubs and you'll bring in all the deer you want.
