Quillback Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Launched at 0430, but the pre-dawn launch did not payoff like I hoped, only boated one 12" bass. Once it started getting light, motored over to my favorite point and caught a 1/2 dozen or so early on the c-rigged Ol Monster, then a couple on the Drop shot, and managed a few top water fish here and there. Decided I was going to do some t-rigging of the Ol' Monster after reading Josh Holts reports of his success with that set up. I did OK on a couple of bluff ends and points fishing it 10-20 feet deep. Ended up with around 20 bass, biggest was 2.5 lbs. It got hot fast, I was on the trailer at 1130 and it was 93 degrees. Water temp was 86 when I left. Caught this mean mouth on the Ol Monster, he thumped it and pulled hard. Thought I had a pretty good one at first, these meanies can pull!
abkeenan Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Hate it when you think you have a pretty good one and it turns out to be a little 14" smallie that thinks he/she is really something. There has been more than one occasion that I have called for the net and to be disappointed when that brown and bronze comes up from digging in the depths and you realize you have a borderline dink. Big white bass when you aren't fishing for them also like to play tricks on me.
Champ188 Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Good info, Quill. Been a lot of end-of-June days we'd have all sold out for a 20-fish morning.
