J-Doc Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 Here is another one with explanations showing fish on regular 2D sonar and the same fish on both side scan and downscan imaging. dan hufferd 1 Need marine repair? Guest Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I couple of shots from today. This was a productive brushpile, I caught 6 off it today. This one has motor wash on the leftside, but that ball of shad was impressive. This was a rather impressive school of bass that chased an A-rig to the boat. Lots of motor wash on the left side.
J-Doc Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Cool. Thanks for sharing! We need more posts of screenshots. If anyone wants an interpretation, let me know. If I don't know the answer, I can get it. Direct from Doctor Sonar if needed. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Guest Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Jdoc, that big school of fish followed the Arig to the boat but couldn't connect. Its a motherload of big blacks.
Members Diggerdawg Posted January 25, 2015 Members Posted January 25, 2015 Having just bought the 7" Dragonfly sounder / plotter I was keen to try it out on a very small loch stocked with rainbow trout and a few browns. There are a few pike too but as far as I'm aware, no other species. I'm used to an old monochrome Eagle Fish easy 2 but am slightly confused by the results I found with the Dragonfly. It is a shallow loch of about 6 acres in total with about 1 acre offering water of between 14' - 20' deep. I'd love to hear any comments on these images as I'm finding it difficult to believe these arcs are all fish. The middle image has a large unexplained hit on the bottom that I suspect may be a spring (as there are no inflows to the loch). Diggerdawg
J-Doc Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Definitely fish for sure. Probably trout as you stated. The middle one puzzles me. Could be a rock formation. Hard to tell with that color palette setting. The new Raymarine units are new for me. Uses chirp technology if I remember correctly. I'd like to see that middle image with different color palettes or setting adjustments. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I do intend to go back soon and look at this with structure scan to see if it shows anything. I'll post a follow up once I get there. It is a silt bottom with very few boulders or features across the loch. I've yet to play around with the settings as this was the first time I'd used it and I could hardly believe my eyes when the screen lit up. Its funny how you begin to doubt everything you think you know when starting over with new equipment. I am surprised at the number of fish that seem to be in this loch.
J-Doc Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Your very welcome and the nd for the post! Those new Ray Marine units are nice. Need marine repair?
