J-Doc Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 How do you calibrate size by boat speed? Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Members BleacherBum28 Posted July 13, 2013 Members Posted July 13, 2013 I recently picked up a HBird 587 HD DI unit. After playing with the settings all week, I have it decently dialed in. However, I have yet to have the screen show nice arches. Most fish I show on the sonar look like the crappie in post #9, yet I know they were decent size Ks. I am running on the 200 hz setting with split fire on. When I run at the high hz setting, i get lots of clutter until i turn the sensitivity way down. Do arches only show when your boat is stationary?
Feathers and Fins Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Doc. its all Math Beach they will show even sitting still. I don't know much about your unit but here is one off mine sitting still double anchored. I had symbols on as well for a youngster in the boat. the Arch was a striper we caught right after the mark https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Feathers and Fins Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Here is another piece of the puzzle. for the last few months I was using my buddies underwater camera, it taught me a lot but I picked up my own this week. His was Black n White, mine is Color and the detail with color is 1000x's better. I spend a good chunk of the day yesterday tv fishing. It opened my eyes to just how many big fish are in beave but more how many fish come look at a lure or live bait but more fascinating was how many fish come look at a bait, in some cases multiple times but for some reason back off. It has a major draw back though. As with topwater where anglers set the hook to fast I did it watching the bite lol. It has opened my eyes to many things and really helped me read the sonar. Now with a color unit I am betting I will only get better. I do need to learn all its functions for sure but here is one picture I took and it sucks but gives you an idea. Upper right corner between the lines is a Kentucky bass swimming away. Just below it to the right are two walleye sitting on the bottom. I wish I could have had a better picture. HERE IS THE SONAR PICTURE Bottom left at 20fow is the Kentucky right below it on the bottom you can see the walleye. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
bfishn Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 At the risk of repetition, ...Spend a lot of time with a camera down and the graph on, and you'll see what I mean. It's a very enlightening and often humbling experience... I can't dance like I used to.
nathanhooper Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Not meaning to take off subject, but would you say that a black and white camera would be enough to gain insight to as what a person is seeing on the sonar? Aside from the fact that color would be nicer. Maybe a max depth that the b/w would work in versus color?
nathanhooper Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 One other, is your camera not showing up on sonar? I'm looking from my phone so maybe I'm just not seeing it.
