I'm sure the Pungo will be the best choice. It was designed more for stillwater and the Pamlico was more of a river design for Wilderness. The James doesn't really have anything tricky enough to require pinpoint maneuvering.

I have a 13' solo canoe that will turn on a dime and is very nimble, it's also a pain to take up a long hole or paddle in a lake because it wants to respond every time the paddle touches the water. I also have a 12' Tarpon and it reacts differently and takes positive strokes to get it to respond, but it also flows smoothly on stillwater and still has enough maneuverability for most Ozark streams.

If I read correctly and the internet is correct, the Pescador 12 is the same boat as the Tarpon 12 (older model). I agree with your assessment. I was on Beaver Sunday morning and had no trouble paddling a couple of miles upstream (dragging through riffles of course).

Thanks for all the help guys. The ascend fs 10 sold and I decided I wanted a sit on top. I ended up getting a perception pescador 12 from ozark mountain trading company. I'm hoping to take it out tonight after work for its first trip. Very excited and seems to be a good lil kayak. Will give an update tonight or Tomorrow on how I like it.

Well took it out on the James river tonight after work. Had 9 fish in about 2 1/2 hours. Caught all but 2 on a squarebill. The others were on senkos. I can only get one picture to upload off my phone. Ill try and post the rest here in a bit. The kayak did great floated pretty straight, was comfortable the whole time and the fishing was good which made it that much better. Definitely need do lil tweaking here and there just make it a little easier holding and storing stuff. Can't wait to take it out again.

Nice Kee, glad it works for you.

I have heard that they bought the old molds, I think it's possible, but I haven't really examined a later Tarpon to see if they have changed them.

The 12' SOT is by far the best short boat for tracking and upstream paddle. Between the it line stability and the ease of paddling with a double they are hard to beat. It's also my favorite cold weather craft. Cold water kills, but with the stability of the SOTs and a pair of neoprene's for warmth I never worry about November on the rivers.

Thank you! When I bought this kayak on Sunday the guy at ozark mountain trading company was showing me the new tarpons and showed me an older one and how perception bought the old tarpon 120 mold. The new tarpon 120 were really nice. Just didn't have that kind of money. Haha.

Yeah, I've had mine awhile, had to pay almost $600 for it shipped to a freight dock in Springfield. :P
